crashed UK MY98 (pics) could be available for parts...
Yep, in January I have buckled a fence real good and the front passenger wing/wheel is ****ed. That wheel shattered on hitting the kerb and bent the steering track rod end so although the engine starts the car is not currently driveable. This car has about 80k on the clock which was verified ~70k by HPI and cross referenced with paperwork incl MoTs when I bought it less than a year ago.
The insurers have made it category B which means its only available for spares and cannot go on the road again. Despite letters and phone calls I cannot get a written reason why they make it category B instead of C (ie repairable for road). They keep on telling meits uneconomicto repair but a fella in a body shop told me he has seen worse at cat C and he reckoned it was repairable for under £2k using cheap parts. Anyway, the insurer has at least offered it back to me at a reasonable price when you consider the parts which could be re-used (lets just say its under £1000 without going into details). I was just wondering if anyone out there was after substantial parts from a car like this then get in touch. For now its only going ot be wirth it if I can find someone who would offer somewhere towards £1000+ probably for the engine and gearbox so please don't contact me just for mirrors/cheap parts as I would need proper interest in expensive parts before buying back from insurer. If I get that and decide to buy back from insurer then obviously other parts would become available.
Here are some pics showing the damage. Note the main engine bay area and componenets are reasonably straight except for front passenger side corner/wheel area...

As people have said, if it's Cat B then you have to have certified premises that can deal with recycling cars ie. the safe disposal of oil etc.

Uneconomical to repair, they've probably quoted thousands for the chassis repair or even classed it as needing a new chassis completely.

My son could repair that in his bodyshop and have it back on the road, I would seriously check with the insurance copany to see if they have got that right.

it is repairable you would have to stitch in a new chunk, rack arm, hub, rack arm, strut, wishbone etc, prob just a light pull to pull over the other side. more than likely the lower bulkhead by the foot well is creased in too, i think if i remember rightly someone once before got a cat b back on the road, had to take it to dvla i think for inspection

if you look in my started threads you will see that i am repairing 2 damaged imprezas. the black bug eye is a cat b. i talked to vosa and they told me as long as it passes a vic then it can go back on the road as a cat c.
if i had any money and room left lol, then i would buy the whole car off you

jaz666 - thanks for that info; I don't suppose you got it in writing about converting cat B into cat C? Let me know if you have any more info on that...
Ok, I have had a few offers for the whole car at but noone has yet offered the £1000 which I am hoping for. Will anyone offer £1000 for the whole car or shall I recover it to my kind colleague's farm and arrange breaking from there instead of shipping direct to your address? I would have thought if the whole car is broken down the parts could be sold for more like £2000? Let me know if you agree?
