MY97 Sti 3 + recent engine rebuild!
Time has come for me to finally get the subaru I have always wanted.....an Impreza Sti Type R! Obviously, I won't be needing to two scoobies!
I bought this sti 3 around 5 months ago. This is my 3rd scooby, with every car in between (mr2 turbo and integra type r) making me appreciate the impreza model even more.
I wanted another scooby so badly after having an integra type r. They are great cars, but not for me.
Thinking with my heart and not head, I rushed into buying this scooby.
In less than 100 miles, the engine spun a bearing! This really surprised me as the overall condition of the car is excellent and the engine seemed perfect when a first heard and drove it. It had a nasty induction kit and this may have caused the failure on the motorway drive back. But it proves you can never be 100% sure, even if you have had 3 years previous experience with the model!
The engine was rebuilt by Kent Performance 1500 miles ago and sounds perfect. It had a new subaru crank, mains, big-ends, rods, rcm oil pump, heads stripped+checked+cleaned and rebuilt, modine oil cooler, ngk pfr 7b plugs, full gasket set, re-painted inlet mainifold. The clutch was replaced with a standard unit 10000 miles ago and was checked at the rebuild and deemed to in excellent condition. I also bought a proper airbox and fitted it along with a green panel filter.
For the first 1000 miles the engine was run-in with 15w40 semi synthetic oil. I kept the engine below 3000rpm and never drove at set speed for any length of time. At 1000 miles, Kent Performance changed the oil with a mobil 1 15w50 and a genuine filter.
The engine now runs perfectly and is very quiet.
Here's the full spec:
-71500 miles
-Toyo Tyres with 6mm at the back, 4mm at the front
-Tsl group n back box and center section
-Decat downpipe
-Green panel filter
-3 months mot and 11 months tax
-Turbo timer
-Cobra cat 1 alarm and tracker fitted
-12 disc changer
-Air-con
-Electric windows and mirror with folding action
-HPI clear
-New cambelt
-Everything else is standard.
-
Body work in excellent condition, there is however some stone chips at the front and to be honest, the front bumper could do with a re-spray (i'm a perfectionist! )
Overall, this is a great example of an sti 3 with a very recent engine re-build.
I'm not going to take the micky with the price as I don't need too, I just want the cash to put towards a type r, so no px's please.
Looking for £5800 which I think is a fair price.
