Hi Mate
The 2008 wheel has the same size splin as your car and will fit. You will have to change the fitting for the horn.
The problem is with the airbag, you can not use the exsisting connector plug
you will have to buy the front airbag wiring loom from your local Subaru Dealer price £1018 + vat, No I haven't made a mistake.
If you buy the wheel you must have the plug that goes into the back of the airbag with it.
Your next problem is that the 2008 wheel uses a different voltage to explode the charge resulting in that the airbag could misfunction.
If you are not concerned about using the airbag it will fit fine.
PS I want £190 for my 2008 STI Steering wheel no plug. Buyer collect (Kent)

Incorrect message up above. Spoke to the dealers this morning, spoke to the techincal geek there and he has confirmed that the airbag will work with all 2001-2007 cars. The steering will also fit a classic but air bag will not work with classic.

Haroon.

Haroon.
Sorry Harry, have got both steering wheels if front of me and the 2001 airbag has a resin bonded plug built into the back of the airbag with a short piece of loom 10cm with a terminal plug that connects onto the airbag Loom in the steering housing.
The 2008 wheel is connected straight off the loom into the airbar.

The connector off the 2001 on, will not fit the 2008.
Just take the wheels and compear them and you will see the problem.
I have had it confirmed by the airbag manufacters, that the 2008 airbag uses a lower voltage to operate the igniter.

Thats why I will only sell my 2008 wheel telling the buyer that "the airbag wont work" First
I made my mistake and I have no intension of telling someone the wrong information, just to sell the wheel.

Sorry for the slight hijack but I'm really interested to know what Scooby Hoo and Harry007 have replaced their OE steering wheels with?

Was going to be the 2008 STI steering wheel but it's not compatible for my 2002 WRX Bugeye, having been assured it was.
However 2003 Blobeye may be different.
But a no no as far as the Bugeye is concerned.
Subaru uk may help anybody who would like to establish the facts for themselves.

yes even the airbag and horn (well the voltages are correct anyway,i havent driven it into a wall to check) but the airbag light stays lit for 3 seconds before going out like it should do

Yes but I think a newage (as in a blobeye or bugeye) wheel is OK on a classic as I think (and I stress the word think rather than know) the airbag voltages etc. are the same. I am trying to get confirmation on this.

This thread is talking about a 2008 STI wheel though which is the latest model and I think what the poster above is saying is that the airbag voltages are different on the 2008 model to the blobeyes and bugeyes.
