Angry Warning Bogus Seller - Sting

I wanted to warn anyone looking to buy goods from a member who goes by the name of gotascoob. He sold me a downpipe which doesnt exist, accepting payment through Paypal (instant transaction) his contact details are bogus he hasnt replied to countless PM's which i know he must be picking up because he's PM'd other enthusiasts trying the same game. Im down £85, be careful your not next. I wouldnt make this accusation If I wasnt sure. A fellow member picked up my earlier 'warning thread' to say that the same guy was selling other items, looking for instant payment, unwilling to give address details etc just needed the money in a hurry. The chap in question can come forward if he likes to confirm this - Im just sending out a warning. DO NOT GET STUNG!!!!!!!

He's on here NOT EBAY, he replied to a post I put up on the wanted section. He's sneeking about knowing there are people looking for parts - and hey presto he has them. If it was ebay I would have had some recourse.

If you paid with PP then open a claim against him, you may get your money back.

Claim on Paypal mate....

They dont seem to take much into consideration before returning peoples money. I sold a camera on Ebay stated as bein faulty and not turning on etc, no returns blah blah blah. The guy got it then said it doesnt work!!!! Go figure what a shock that must have been......anyways, Paypal agreed I had sold the item not as described!.....If that git gets his money then you sure as hell deserve every penny mate.

I can agree with rtm4676

I posted in the wanted section for some 4pot calipers and at 9pm on 2nd Jan and at 9:30pm he sent me a PM saying he had some 4pots with discs, pads and calipers for £150. Bargain I thought....
He then said he wanted to be paid via Paypal. I searched his ID and found the post in the Scotland forum mentioning a possible scammer.
PM'd rtm4676 and got the details.
I thought that I would try and get some personal details from him so I then asked him for his name and address for me to clarify who he is and that I need to send a cheque.
He then warned me about how long it would take and he would prefer Paypal so he could get his bits asap.
I then replied saying I need to send a cheque as my Paypal account was locked. I was then getting dubious by this point and having spoken to rtm4676 I was reluctant to send any money.
He then replied with this:
"Sorry but I'm gonna have to sell to another buyer for less. Might sound silly but I have a remap booked for the 10th and still need a few bits (air filter, plugs, oil change, cold air feed). I shot myself in the foot buying the Brembos and now going to have to pay over the odds for the above to get the best out the remap.
By the time the cheque clears it'll be too late, so I'm gonna have to buy everything off ebay and pay delivery for everything
If you can get payment to me some other way let me know. I just wanted the brakes gone cheap/quick as theyre no use to me and I needed the cash in a hurry."

Then I asked him for his Phone number he did not reply.
So I sent him the link to the post by rtm4676 and that he had better sort this out if it was a misunderstanding and that was why I asked for his details.
He has not replied

If this guy is genuine then he should give his own story so that this can be cleared up

Im going to contact the administrator incase theres a better way of warning people. His actions spoil the forum for every unsuspecting enthusiast who's looking for bargains. He's clever he choses to contact memebers who are advertising in the wanted section. *****.

I think you should also post this in the wanted section, since its the people who start threads in there that are most vunerable to this guy

EDIT: just noticed you have already - oh well BTTT

Guys, just spotted this thread so the Admin team are now aware of it.

I would appreciate if you can post any links to FS threads he is involved with. As search doesn't appear to be showing any results of this user posting in the FS (for sale) sections (I think search is not working as it should, which doesn't help). So, am I correct in saying he is performing these transactions off-board via PM?

I would advise, of course, to be very wary of users with such low post counts and very little interaction in the non-FS sections. And take the upmost precaution to users who will only reply via PM or non-ISP based email accounts (like hotmail etc). If there is any doubt in a user's legitimacy in a transaction, then do not go ahead with the sale.

AL

yes you are right, he has a low posting count, rather than selling items he doenst have waiting on a bite, he hits the people through PM that are looking in the wanted section.

Mods - take the example of avforums and create a rogue trader register and stricter rules on the trading sections.

Yes, you should check out someone's history before buying ... which I do now every time since being ripped off once 3 yrs ago. But this sort of thing keeps cropping up and always will, unless there's a bit more control of the trading sections.
