Any reciepts / proof of new engine mileage ? Klinger headgasket ? Is there an oil leak on the right hand side of the block ?

Is there a whine in 5 gear ? rust under the rear window, i.e. stick your head in the boot, look up ?

any engine pics ? notice this is a pre-facelift, i.e. steering, front grill different.

Where you based ? Im near Worthing , Sussex

Hi Simon,

I will check the Receipts rust etc later.

I can confirm tho that there isn't any whine in 5th gear, you are correct that this is a pre facelift model - not many about and we are based in Benfleet, Essex.

Will confirm the rest later.

I can also confirm that we have the receipt for the engine (unfortunately it doesn't state the mileage), also have the receipt for the klinger head gasket and as far as we are aware/can see there isn't an oil leak on the right side, neither does the car leak oil on the drive way.

I hope this helps

Hi,

Obivously Ive had a number of 220 turbos, hence the questions :-) Looks like the car has suffered a failed H/G at some point, the colour of the expansion tank gives that away. Rust isnt that bad, as 99% of coupe suffer around there.

Mmm, price wise, well it would be a punt, and if you have refused £700, then Im not going to disrespect you.

Nice car, hope you sell it. Have you tired rovertech.net ?

Hi Simon,

You are correct the car has suffered a failed head gasket, hence why a another engine was fitted, the failed HG was due to a pipe leaking which has been renewed with a pipe from pirtek.

Also please do not come to conclusions as to why the car hasn't been sold yet!

Thanks

eh ? I havent come to any conclusions why you havent sold it ? Just noticed the colour of the expansion bottle. Wasnt implying its gone, hence the sale.

However, as ive been told off, might aswell make a point. I would certainly clean that bottle, as it suggests its still merky and iffy. Nothing sells a rover 220 turbo better, than seeing clean rad fluid / bottles, as it shows maintenance.

Was trying to be helpful about rovertech.net.

Wish I kept quiet now :-(

If saying taking a PUNT at the price isnt then im unsure what you mean.

The coolant HAS been changed twice since the engine change so cant help the colour of the expansion tank can i. The reason is probably due to the previous owners lack of rectifying the problem hench the engine change. Wouldnt even start when we got the car. ALL fluids are regulary changed on all 3 of our cars. This one, the Noble and the scoob. The car has ( ok at a guess until i look) done possibly 600 miles SINCE the engine change as only used as a station car for wifey. MOTs back this up. I will post a pic later of ALL the history that is with us too. For a 15 Y/O car its rather extensive. shame there has to be one silly owner in there.

Know of rovertech and rover coupe forums. just dont post regular on them.

Also if you have had several you as well as me would realise along with £80 of tax in the window, and a New starter motor fitted that this could easily be broken down to make the same money.

Sell it whole, break it, I dont really care. Im glad I havent got the car to be honest :-)

I've had to displeasure of rebuilding two, and had trouble selling them. HG are crap, they pi55 oil out of the right hand side of the block, even with a klin. headgasket which demands a perfeclty flat surface.

Gearboxs whine in 5th as the bearings are housed in a plastic holder, so are pi55 weak. LSD is weak. Rust comes in at the rear wheel arches, the rear windows rust like crap. Idling is iffy, due to the ECU / ISC, water pumps go. Most of all its a R O V E R !

So, this is what I mean by `punt` now, although when I first said `punt` I was referring to £700 not beinga lot of money, so worth a `punt`.

But now, the word `punt` is meant differently. I would of taken that guy's offer of £700.

But, as its such a pot of gold, if broken, then delete the thread, and enjoy your new found wealth.

:-)

Nothing worse than someone that contradicts himself .... maybe it could be the way you have driven/looked after the cars and not the car it self...

I think this has been blown out of all proportion! I honestly don't think there was any malice in Simon's replies and i also believe he was genuinely interested in the car to begin with.

I've also been through a lot of what he has, what with rebuilding them etc once the klinger gasget has gone on and the diff bearings have been changed for metal cased ones then these are good cars and very underestimated. The problem is they're just not worth anything which is such a shame.

I really want to comment about the price but i don't want to cause trouble and it's not fair as i'm not a 'genuine buyer' , i'm just posting because i love tomcat turbos lol

Seriously though these are very underestimated, pop an exhaust, filter and de-cat on and they will sit with standard scoobies no problem

another bump for a cool tomcat

Comment all you like about the price, We thought it was fair considering the history the car had. Cant have been that bad either.

Sold To the first viewer this afternoon. Had to tell the other two who wanted to view its gone.

Thats how this place has gone now. TBH we never expected to sell it via here and never did. We have amazingly had 5 calls from the autotrader ad and 2/3 from pistonheads. Sold to the second caller via autoytrader. happy days. Now wifey off replacement shopping.
