Default Is this WR1 worth a look?

Subaru Impreza WRX STI WR1 15000 miles on eBay, also, Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Jun-09 19:42:06 BST)

Do you think its worth a punt? I'm looking to spend between 10 and 11K. What other scooby would you reccomend for that money? Looking for a standard car thats not been hammered.

Hi Will, welcome to the forum

Now for the wr1 its a cat c repaired, all depends whats the reserve to be honest, you see them go between 13-15k depending condtion and millage on pistonheads.

I guess your looking for a newer car? Or you want a well looked after nice example classic? For now im gonna show you some nice standard newage ones so you can look over

Subaru : Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type UK
Subaru : Subaru Impreza STI .2003 53 plate
Subaru : Subaru Impreza STI Type UK ( PPP) 2003
Subaru : 2002 WRX STI TYPE UK PRODRIVE

Plenty to choice from mate dont rush into buying one etc

Thanks for the replies guys.

Phil true that is a gorgeous looking example, but cant stretch to that.

Was taken witht he idea of a WR1 as you get the PPP STi performance but cos its standard the insurance is kinder.

I just love the styling, colour and wheels on the WR1.

What would you expect to pay for the WR1 i posted at the top? What would be a fair price to offer, providing the damage was panel damage only. A mate of mine is an insurance assessor and he informed me that imprezas get written off very easily due to the high cost of repairs rather than the car being mauled compltely.

advert says "I have personally meticulously repaired the car in a professional body shop, not to sell,to keep long term, using new genuine subaru WR1 parts with receipts to prove".....

except i spotted immediately that the sideskirts on the car are from a bugeye STI and not from a WR1 - they don't have the same twist in the design i would also suggest that for a car of this value to be a cat C, then it would take more than "just panel damage" to the front wing area. If he's had to change the side skirts, it suggests there might have been more damage down the side of the car.....

i'd insist of photos of the car before any repairs were carried out before considering it seriously.

Well spotted, yep kinda opens up a can off worms in buying a car like this, think personally I would rather have piece off mind in buying a non accident damaged one, sure there must be a few out there, its a buyers market mate.

OK bud. If you like the WR1 then that's for you. I am a fan of them also but TBH I would be looking at a JDM car for that sort of budget. You will get cracking performance in standard form and the car is very tunable.

I'll have it mate, for that money JDM would be more car for the money, but insuring it crazy money - quotes i've had so far for anything 'JDM' are ridiculous.

Will, you need to go to a speciallist for a JDM car, Im with Keith Michaels and get a good year on year deal with them but you can try A Plan also.
The JDM will be a nicer all round car as its got more goodies on there, and its more bang for buck really, but if that car has been repaired and if you want to go for a look and drive to see what its like, you may get it cheaper than you expect, on a down side, its resale value will be hit badly

As most people have already touched on, you might get it for less than a straight car but when you come to sell it your resale value will be hammered! The guy selling it has pretty much said this in his advert as he claims he bought it with the intention of keeping it for a long period of time

Category C is normally an extensively damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road. The guys photos will show how extensive it was.

I wouldn't touch a category C car myself but its a personal choice. If you could buy it for pretty much its current bid (about £8k) and you are going to keep it long term you might think about it. If you change your car every 1 or 2 years though I would keep looking! If you are prepared to pay upto £11k trust me your are almost at the price someone would be prepared to sell you a straight average mileage one in the current market.

If you go for a WR1 look out for the unique bits (many of which that are listed above). The PFF7 wheels come in a unique pewter, tax disc holder is numbered, service book is numbered, WR1 key fob, the Petter Solberg signed plaque below the centre console and the mat set.

I think the only way you can answer that one is to arrange to drive all three and see what you prefer. Everyone on the board is likely to have their own personal preference (whether they have driven the cars themselves or not!). At least one lucky member of the boards has probably owned all three
