If you wish, show me a pic illustration, so we both fully understand each other.

the front cross member is much further out than newage cars...in the pic below you can see how much longer the newage steering linkage is. You can't use the existing classic linkage because the splined connector on newgae racks are larger diameter.
you best check with your mechanic as I don't think it's possible...happy to be corrected if I'm wrong

Thx for the pic
Maybe that's what he was trying to explain to me.
Interesting, because I have a Classic as a personal joyride and it has an 04 STI quick steering rack installed and xmember was not exchanged.
I check, but this could mean that the new rack can be installed into classic's as well with the linkage?
Cheers,
R.

I'm fortunate my dad is a retired automotive engineer and I have a solution that's safe and will mean the steering stays smooth ans notch free
i going to get an engineering shop to take the UJ's apart, swap the newage end into the classic linkage and reattach it as the factory did

I asked my mechanic.
What they did is simple. They separated an original GC8 linkage and a GDB linkage and merge 1 linkage out of them. (Meaning the original end attached to the steering column and the new GDB end attached to the Steering Rack).
Also, we have found a THIRD steering rack, which can definitely be installed to GC8 without the Xmember change.
Cheers,
R.

Since my car is an LHD, when it was converted it lost the 13:1 Quick Steering rack and got the standard UK Turbo rack (3.2 turns). So, getting back the 2.6 turns lock-lock was already awesome. Other than that no issues, it sits there like stock, except it was a big deal, because of being LHD.
Also no problems regarding the turning travel of the wheel, turning circle etc. all remained stock, plus the car is "not nervous", drives like normal, but when you drive it hard it really pays off having a faster rack.

will be interesting to see how much it changes the way the car drives, I always thought it was 3 turns for a UK car and the Spec C is 2.25 turns...either way it's going to be a massive improvement, can't wait

Hi ronin hungary. Im looking for details to convert our 94 LHD STi to a quick rack. Obviously the cost of buying one is a bit excessive, so any advice? The car is ex McRae/Sainz Prodrive recce car, used on the 94 and 95 WRC seasons. Now competes as a club spec rally car, currently rebuilding into RWD spec for this years RAC rally, hence the need for quick rack!

MY06 Rack is sold now.
I have also found an earlier version Spec-C rack, which can be installed into GC8 Impreza-s !!! Without having to deal with cross member etc. issues !!!
Cheers,
R.
ps.: "Yorkshire navigator" I pm-d you.

I do not have pics at the moment, but I will shoot some next week.
1 of them fits 01-05, the other one fits 99-00, but if you change the connecting linkage (or whatever it is called) then it fits GDB as well.
So definitely will fit your car (01 Impreza right? )
Cheers,
R.

The GC8 Spec-C quick rack is gone.
Only the MY05 Spec-C quick steering rack remains :!:
Come on people, these cost 500 GBP + shipping new, I give it away for 330 GBP shipped.
Take it!
