yea would go along with that matt.
human nature is to buy as cheap as poss and sell as expensive as poss, everyones just trying there best by whatever means.
I usually think half price is fair second hand price apart from certain exceptions (age, condition, desireability).

If I put "offers" in an ad, don't get a monk on because I don't accept yours. It's not an auction; you make an offer at one price, I then risk loosing the sale completely by turning it down and holding out for a better offer. No one's asking you to bid higher prices. You offer a price you're willing to pay for something. If the seller wants more then so be it.

Even if you agree to pay the asking price that doesn't mean you'll get it either. I agreed to pay the asking price for a P1 lip spoiler, a bit over the odds in my opinion but the guy says ok, done deal and I give him my details.
Next day he mails me and says, sorry, I've sold it to someone else now. What a complete to***r!

Same thing happened to me with an induction kit
Blokey agrees and accepts my offer, goes quiet for a couple of days, finally responds to my emails with "sorry the induction kit is now sold " yes, should have been to me

I agree - if you agree to sell something at a price then you sell it that price. For the last 2 things I sold through here (strut brace and wheels) I received late offers higher than those I had accepted but still sold them to those people with whom I had agreed a price.

Pob and simon, I have also had that problem with someone who is on the board quite a bit, put up a few items for sale, i agreed to pay the price advertised, but on THREE bloody occasions he renaged and sold to someone closer to home (supposedly, more like they offered more).
Needless to say ignore for sale posts from that person.

Flip side of the coin -
So that of course means that when you guys buy something of here you pay the asking price for it and dont negotiate?
Just because you have made an offer doesnt mean they have to accept it lol. Wish life were that easy.
As for treating it like an auction thats down to the individual,
Its a double edged sword chaps, if you dont pay the figure the person had in mind and someone else offers to do so, they can quite happily blow you out anyway.
tho tbh what i tend to do is if i get an acceptable offer from something im selling, as far as im concerned the item is sold regardless of any other offers that arrive, unless the purchaser doesnt send payment or vanishes.

How many times have you seen somone slagged off for asking a price that others deem too high.
One saving grace of classified adds is that you don't get a bunch of people ringing up and telling you the price is far too high, they are cheaper from xyz etc....
Maybe people are trying to save embarrassment but know what figure they want to accept.
I must admit though, when someone puts "offers" I don't bother even asking, human nature tells me the price is high.
