you cant remap a yellow 3 plug ecu (sp, 8s etc.) thats intended to fit on a 97-98 car. You can remap (via. chipping or esl) a yellow 4 plug (z4 etc) ecu, but it wont fit a 97-98 car, you can remap a P1 ecu if you wanted to (it would be a waste) but that wont fit a 97-98 car either. You can fit a jdm sti ecu on a uk turbo 97-98 car, but it will melt the pistons very quickly unless you convert the whole car to sti spec (pistons, turbo etc.) and use optimax + octane booster. You cant ecutek a 97/98 car either so thats a non starter. You can (in theory) fit a daugter board to a 97-98 but good luck with that one... it aint 1999 anymore! I have seen yellow 3 plug sp ecu's sell for over £200 on e-bay more than once. The 97-98 sp was programmed & built by sti japan for prodrive, to use the uk fuel octane. Its a safe but good upgrade thats recognised by uk dealers. The alternative is apexi pfc or similar which will be double the price at least if you are lucky enough to find one as they are being rapidly phased out. If you want a mild upgrade I say they are tops, way better than stock anyway.
