I think they use a thing called a 'media slice', it slots underneath the laptop and that's what has the DVD/Floppy.

Your linking a laptop to a desktop pc?
Doesn't that defeat the object of having a laptop

well, i'm using it when i'm in the library and i don't need a cdrom there.
i only use the cd-rom to install stuff i.e. officeXP, after that i don't use any it more which doesn't defeat the purpose.
and it comes with a 6-cell li-ion battery which is one of the best from ibm (lightweight). usually can take 3 hours in the library without fail.

anyway, it's suitable for those not-requiring a desktop replacement but require an ultralight-portable to move about.
you can see the difference between the X21 and a normal desktop replacement here. it's in korean but there're plenty of images to show you what they're saying.
