Rcae Spec Dawes Device
#1
Forgive, but since I cant search the forum I hought I'd just ask, and if its a fabulous thing then I may even purchase it...
WHAT THE HELL IS A DAWES ???? What does it DO? Ive seen sooooo many references to Dawes, but they all assume a basic level of knowledge that Im afraid I just havent stumbled across...
Heres hoping for a not too technical reply :P
EDITED - because I found out....so which "device" is it? I see one advertised thats some pipes and a T piece thingy with some tie wraps thats £35 new, so that cant be it..unless you are one hell of a business man :P

Makes a hell of a difference as you will have already read on this site!

From what I can make out its basically just a pressure valve controlled by a spring. Remove a pipe, replace with the valve and turn the thread to alter the pressure which your turbo boosts at. Potentially lethal as car can run too lean, but standards scoobs run rich and can take upto 17psi (ish) relatively safely. I think mine has max boost of 14psi (standard car). I hope this info is right as I'm fitting one this weekend!

This one is the race spec which is meant to be slightly faster reacting to boost changes than the standard 35 quid job.
Makes a hell of a difference - 266bhp and 257lb/ft @ just over 15Psi on my decat MY99

Hol,
I'm in Berks On a uk car it makes a hell of a difference but I think it was discussed in Drivetrain that it wasn't recommended to use them on WRX's and STi's I think due to fueling/det issues.....

Yeah - if your only going to run standard pressure with it I imagine it will be fine just spool up quicker and keep going longer. I think the warning was for Jap owners intending to crank the boost up with it

ScoobyJawa, once in a while, I do get bored and sometimes decide to do some stupid stuff. Maybe a fuel cut lifter would be bought by me. You'll never guess what I'll do next.
