Default Road tax

Hi. Im back after a few years.

I miss my old Scooby and am looking to buy one again.

At what age does the road tax go up to £490? How new can i look for one before it hits this bracket?

Many thanks,
Ted.

23rd of March 2006 I think.

£490 to buy 12 months tax today, but £500 from the 1st April.

Thank you to the government, you're a bunch of cracking guys!

My hawk STi is £290 for the year or £154 for 6 months?? Mad as I have the same car as you Hawkeye D but you pay a extra £200 because my car was registered on the 21st March 2006!!

When I looked for a Hawk, that was the first question I asked regarding road tax, cant see the point paying £490 a month on a car that was worth £10k, Maybe if I was driving round in a £50k BMW or Merc, I wouldn't mind to much!!!

My 4x4 costs the £490 and its currently for sale.

Does anyone know why it changed on that date in particular?

The VED banding system comes into play for all vehicles registered after 23rd March 2006.

I went to look at a Legacy Spec B that was registered on the 24th March 2006 that was for sale in Knutsford last year, the dealer thought it was exempt from the £490 band when he bought it too.

Deffo not a fair way to tax cars. I do around 3000 miles a year in mine as its just a weekend car and it costs £490.

There are cars on the road doing thousands more miles on £30 or even free road tax??

Surely those cars are more polluting through the year??

I should hog the middle lane. Ive paid for it!!!

Why should tax be fair?
Think of it more as legalised extortion is my advice.
It's all about HMG helping themselves to the fruits of your labour.

Thieving buggers but it's not road tax remember it's road license I'm 1k a year for only two of my motors but by paying it I'm not letting them win and make me change my motor, in 10 years time all these 30 a year cars will be 500
