Is the Scoob going to become a classic?
#1
Due to the lack of demand for Scoobs at present and therefore the poor price people are being offered come trade in, etc. my old man has decided to keep the Scoob for a few more years.
Having read about how great the Scoob is still to drive and all the superlatives used to describe the Scoob in the past, do you think it will become a future classic?
I mean a TRUE classic, like the Cossie, Audi Quattro and the Intergrale, etc.
What do you think? Will we, in a few years, be beating potential buyers off with a stick, so to speak? Has it got what it takes? A worry of mine is that cars like the Evo, etc. will make the Scoob less desirable as they are essentially pretty similar and so buyers can choose?
Cheers,
Tom

Just because the market is flooded, it doesn't mean it won't become a classic.
Lot's of MK I & II Escorts were made, and they are classics (depending on model - liek the Mexico's and RS2000's), but I woulld never see the MKIII Escort as a classic!!!
That said, I don't believe it will reach Integrale or Quattro status. (and some Cossies)
Although there will probably always be a market for 22B's!!

It is a classic, but not in terms of values, which will continue to be affected by several things -
1 Cheap Euro Imports (or high UK prices!) at £5k + off the UK list
2 No import quotas anymore (used to mean long wait to get a scooby as only X were available)
2 Jap Imports becoming readily available, means that our UK prices are directly affected by Jap prices for the cars second hand!
Shame they don't hold there value, but yes they are a classic car

Check out Car Magazine, I believe Dec 99 issue. Impreza is named Car of the Decade.
I would dare to suggest that because the Impreza was sold at a far higher real price than the Escorts, and so sales figures in the UK were lower, it would indeed reach Integrale or Quattro status. Recent mag (I forget which, perhaps Car again) remembered its own comment about "Subaru tries to build a joke Quattro" on the scoob's first launch, and then admitted eating several restaurants' worth of humble pie a few years later.
