Default Outside (ambient) air temp sensor.

This is the one behind the grille in front of the radiator. Mine has gone haywire (reading high all the time) so need one. The part number on it is '582623 3800' but they are fitted on all Subaru's with dash temperature display's but vary on the type of electrical connector. I have a 2010 Impreza WRX-S but I know this part was fitted on Foresters from 2002-2011 ? The link below (if it works) is a picture of one.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes, but I don't want to have to re-mortgage my house !!!

These are £25 approx in the States but you have to pay duty etc. £55 from a main dealer in UK is I think taking the p--s. hence trying my luck on here. If anyone can recommend a main dealer then I am happy to ring them........

I too am having issues with the ambient temperature reading on the dashboard ( MY2007 hawkeye). The car started reporting -7 a few weeks back so I ordered a new sensor. I removed the ambient temperature sensor and got the expected "- - -" reading on the display whilst waiting for a new sensor.

I received the new sensor and fitted it this weekend (but didn't disconnect the battery before fitting - should I have done this ?). The outside temperature reading remains out by about 10 degrees (as was before the sensor swap) but the new sensor is definitely picking up a difference in outside temperature as it altered by 2 degrees during the commute to work (which is normal).

I'm wondering if I should have disconnected the battery to allow any "stored" data to clear before fitting the new sensor. My understanding is the CPU maintains readings and then makes adjustments to the "stored" readings based on the ambient temperature sensor:

Any advice on getting a near-accurate reading would be much appreciated.

More evidence that the dealers/importers are a bunch of thieves.

Battery or sensor, or both ?

The sensor detected a massive change in outside temperature between this morning and this afternoon so I've disconnected the battery and will see if it makes any difference in a couple of hours time.

Hmmm, no change after battery disconnected for a couple of hours. Will have to try disconnecting and reconnecting the sensor.

Honest question why bother? I personally couldn't give two hoots if mine said -45 or +700.

Some people just prefer that things fitted to their car work.
How far up the road of enforced equipment redundancy would you go?
Ambient temp sensor fails - leave it.
Head lamp 'on' indicator fails - leave it.
Electric window doesn't work - leave it?
Oil pressure warning light fails - leave it?
See where I'm going?

Fair enough, wasn't sure if it had some overriding effect on anything!

Don't think so, it's been out by about 10 degrees for a few weeks now, and even when driving around without an ambient temp sensor connected it didn't seem to have any effect other than a lack of display.
