Default Cleaning up 4-pots to sell, would you paint them?

Evening all, going to take my 4-pots to work tomoz and shot blast them to hopefully make them easier to sell - but would you paint them after or let the buyer do that themselves?

Please note this is not a for sale ad, just a genuine question as i have a few other bits to sell also so ill pay the traders fee in a few days when i have taken pics of everything and got it all together.

If its recommended to paint, what colour? Obviously i dont want to spend much as i have no use for them any more and everyones taste is different regarding colours etc.

Cheers for any input.

i would leave them for the new owner, i guess you will be rebuiling them after the clean up as you obviously dont want crap going into the pistons or damaging the seals

They were rebuilt by subaru then had 10k miles of use before i fitted brembos to the car, then sold the car.

I have a receipt for £550 worth of pistons, seals gen pads and discs etc.

I will mask them off around the seals etc to as you say make sure no ****e gets in them, and plug the holes for the hoses etc.

I guess it will be easier to just blast them and if they sell let whoever buys them sort out colour etc as its not hard to paint them.

Also a question on the fees while were here, just been looking and it says you can pay monthly £2 a month for scoobynet plus membership allowing access to for sale area

Or you can pay £4 a month for access to the classified section.

Surely you would be better off paying the. £2 a month option for more stuff?

Or am i missing something on that front?

Ok finally got round to blasting them last week, and looked at them today some slight rusting was appearing around the bolt holes... So gonna have to primer them at the very least or just get some calliper paint and paint them red or something??

What would you do?

Yeah ok, I'm not sure why the link doesn't open at the top of the page

I thought you might have seen the opportunity to use the paint I had ordered and tempt me in to working something out to our mutual benefit.

Oh i see pmsl

Tbh i have used foliatec calliper paint in the past and as long as you put it on really thick and leave it ages to dry it looks pretty good.

Your best bet is to spray tho.

I have also had good results just using normal spray smooth hammerite.

If you want your callipers shot blasted i could probably do them, but im sure you will have more local places.

Looks like big red powdercoat, but that usually cures in a 180 degree c oven and i have no idea how hot callipers get under braking.

the problem i'm up against is the colour i want, I could only find it readily in brush on form. I'll PM you details rather than side track your thread

When I refurbed a few sets I offered the buyer the option of what colour they wanted.

I was saying to Fudgey, the rears on mine look quite pitted

So I've posted a WANTED thread on my local forums.

I've just bought new discs and pads for my rear callipers, the sliding calliper type.

However, I want them painted in a funky colour, and it looks likely that I'll have to send them away, so I'm after a set I can send off.

If anyone has a set that aren't rotten knocking about [after upgrading to 2 pot rears perhaps] please get in touch ASAP
The four pots aren't fitted and are believed to be fully working but I've bought new pads.

I just have a specific funky colour in mind and want matching fronts and rears.

Fudgey, for the ones you're selling mat colours seem to show less pitting, sticks out more on the shiny ones, the grey look pretty good or silver if you want a neutral colour

Im going to fit some new calipers on very soon. Better to paint them now???

If wanting red what spray would people recommend? I assume there is a good caliper painting thread somewhere?

I used high temp spray paint, remember to take up pistons, primmer, base, then lacquer

Riiidaa,

i will try and get some pics up later of mine after blasting, cant upload to photobucket at work... mine looked like your rear ones before hand.

it might be a struggle to blast off all the red paint on the front ones tho. mine were not painted.
