Default Spraying a FMIC?

Can you Spray a FMIC without any adverse effects? Just into black with some Laquer or will it hamper performance?

There's lots of ic that have logos sprayed on to them and some are sprayed to protect them. I think its just a question of getting the right spray paint,I bet most car shops (halfords) would sell the right stuff. Just make sure it is sprayed on thin and works with heat ie it conducts rather than shield.

There's lots of opinions on this but I've done mine and can't say it's done any harm - I suppose if you are running on the ragged edge of the cooler's capability then you'll notice a difference but a cooler capable of running 600BHP on car running about half that will be fine.

Make sure you use etch primer though otherwise it will flake off and look ****

Ive painted a couple of FMIC on my old Evo's and had no problems!! But have read a few threads on here saying that the paint can clog the fins up and then not work as efficiently!! Personally I cant see any problem giving it a light coat of paint, and tempted to do mine in satin black!!!

As Jon said, use etch primer. A thin coat of that and a thin coat of satin black (I did mine with a rattle can) and it'll be fine!

painting an intercooler the correct colour with some particular paint can actually improve performance, mishimoto use this technology on some of their products

Just don't spray it on too thick and all will be fine, build up the layers slowly

Hi Pete
Been doing the MLR 22b Whiteline sprints for last 2 years,
So not doing track days, but there is a noisy one at the end of the year at Donnington that I might put my name down on,
Did you manage to sell yours?

Birchy, remember silver reflects heat, black absorbs heat

Scoobyboy,
I am very lucky,
Been building the car now from when I bought it new,
And Andy at Richard Henry looks after it for me, with out him, I would not be where the car is, massive thanks to him,
But yes ,mi am lucky,

Bez

I used a very light dusting of Manifold paint (its very dark grey/black) only lightly on the fins and thicker on the end tanks of the FMIC, it looks like its meant to be there.

I would not have painted it, but it would stand out like a sore thumb!

I can remember a thread on here a while back when the late great Harvey Smith (RIP) showed his results from a clean FMIC and then a painted/powder coated one, it was not as efficient painted so would just say.. only a light dusting! I wouldn't coat it with primer and then paint and lacquer... you will hamper its performance some what.

Painted my last FMIC silver, just a light dusting to stop the salt corroding it though
