Default Any apiarists on here?

For the last few days, I've noticed little bits of what looked like brown soil appearing in one spot on my rear bumper.

Yesterday evening, I was sitting outside near the car and spotted a small bee that flew up to the gap between the bumper and the boot, and disappeared.

Closer investigation with a torch revealed that it was slowly building up a collection of either pollen or some similar material next to one of the drain holes inside the bootlid.

I'm afraid I cleaned it all out as I really don't need a bee living in my car, but I wonder if anyone is well up on bees and could explain what was going on.

If it had been in the bonnet of course, I'd have had no need to ask...!

But no, this isn't a joke post (although I found it rather amusing), it's true.

Thanks for any help.

You missed a golden opportunity for a "be in your bonnet" joke. Or do I detect a very clever one?

Very odd though. I'd get on to bill oddie.

You detect a vaguely clever one (third line from the bottom).

But it's still meant as a serious question as I'm aware how badly bees are doing at the moment and I don't want to do anything to harm them.

Yeah I heard that too. Though I've seen far more bees than wasps so far this year. Don't mind bees but wasps can get lost.
is it just the one that made a home out of your car?

Probably a species of solitary bee. Some people think bees only exist in large colonies but there are a surprising number of solitary bees.

There's more of the brown deposit on the bumper this evening, so I suspect my unintended passenger is still keen on keeping his spot.

I was considering putting this in the 'Non-Scooby Related' forum, but it is directly related to my T20 (which is the location of the incident), so in a way, it's in the right place.

I'm not sure how Mr Bee will manage when I put the car back into the garage in a month or so though.

I had a similar problem once.

What I did was put some brown sauce in a bowl beside my car and left it sitting. Within a week the bowl was full; there was about 50 bees in it.

I then poured the mixture into a jar, sealed it and put it in the boot.

The result? Well the bees never came back and I noticed a huge increase in power afterwards.

That extra 50 Bee HP made a huge difference! Lol.

Sorry OP.

If you made that up yourself, that's genius. If not I'll have you stung to death by bees!

On a serious note I would get on top of it soon, last thing you want is more turning up. Male bees gather pollen to impress females, next thing you know you got a hive in your boot!
