Default WRX Uber Geek wanted - Damper Part Numbers

Hi All,

Very happy 2005 WRX owner now, and new member.

Car has started making the rear shocks knocking noise though, so want to replace all shocks and springs in one hit now.

No one can really help with me ordering exactly the right dampers though - I want to order KYB Excel-G dampers front and rear, but I have been told I need to get the original part number on the rear dampers - which means the car up on a ramp to check it...

I think the issue is mine is the very last of the 2.0 WRX (Oct 2005 reg), so has different rear dampers? Inverted struts?

I also want to order Eibach Pro-Kit springs - are these fine to order the (03-05) versions of the springs?

Any WRX uber geeks out there to help with this one?

I guess July 05 was the end of the 2.0 WRX production? Mine was registered in Oct 2005.

Just need to find out which ones are right for my WRX!

And dont buy eibachs also, far too soft for heavy newage, h&r are far better rated (in terms of spring rates) for uk roads

I put eibachs in mine and then removed an fitted h&r. Drop is roughly same

I was given the part numbers of 334-359 (Rear Left) and 334-358 (Rear Right) from a KYB Distributor, however after speaking to Alyn at AS Performance, it seems the 2005 WRX uses a similar inverted strut to the 2004 STi, and these are the part numbers for the non-inverted struts (so a 2003-2004 WRX), so would have been wrong to order.

Going to try the greasing the tops temporary fix as there is also the possibility that the sound is not the normal "shocks need replacing" diagnosis which seems to cover every clunking sound from the rear of these cars.. We'll see.

I fitted STi Shocks and Eibach springs from a JDM Blob to my Bugeye, they where excellent. There are many different Eibach Spring rates you can get, the wrong combination is a killer.
