Default Best option for 240,000 mile WRX

Writing this on behalf of my dad, he has a 2006 WRX with 240,000 miles that he has unfortunately decided it's time to replace, going to be very sad to see it go!

He's been offered part ex, but we are wondering whether it would be worth the time and effort to break it for parts? All body panels and interior really are in very good condition for any age, let alone this mileage. Even the drivers seat has shown little wear, and it's used everyday!

I know there would usually be more value from breaking than what he's been offered, however, with this mileage I expect the mechanicals would be worth extremely little, if anything?

Does anyone know roughly how much value there is left in this car and whether it is worth breaking? I also apologise for the images, as I didn't have my camera with me and had to use my phone!

Cheers,
Chris

Nearly a quarter of a million miles! Wow that looks in good shape!

I think someone should snap this up, give it a new lease of life and she'll go again all day long.

Too nice to be broken perhaps.....

Maybe a tidy little project for someone.

I'm surprised Subaru have not used your car to advertise the 'reliability' of the 2.5 engines and how everyone was wrong! (Thats if it is still using the standard engine)

Subaru Collector 555.

What does your dad do - drive it to Subaru Japan and back once a year?

That's a hell of an advert for a car tbh.

I'd agree that breaking such a 'young' car with such 'old' mechanicals probably wouldn't be cost-effective.
Get what you can for it but use the high mileage as proof of reliability, not get taken in by a punter saying it's a warning of problems to come.

Good luck whichever way yuor dad decides to play it.

haha nope standard engine from new! I will find out what exactly has been replaced but as far as i'm aware no major components have ever needed to be changed. He owned a Volvo 850 before this which is still in the family and now near 320,000 miles

no point in breaking bud, its a standard car with no desirable modded parts and tired mechanicals too. as already said a great advert for the doubters of the 2.5 engines longevity tho. I,d take the part ex deal if its reasonable or sell as whole as another engine could give it a new lease of life.

You and your Dad should be proud of the interest this thread has generated.

You're in Cardiff, and hopefully dad's close by.
11th June, monthly meet of SWS at the Toby, J30 M4 Cardiff Gate.

Would LOVE to see this !

Be interesting to know what he's been offered as a px price.

I'd say you might just squeeze £2k out of it initially for the popular bits like dash and front end inc lights etc and a bit more over the course of about a year bitting and bobbing somewhere around £3k plus what ever you get for weighing the rest in maybe as much as £4k if you can be arsed with all the hassle involved.

Problem being ones with circa 50/70k go for around the £6k mark so it's difficult to put a price on it of above £4k which I suspect is very close to what he's been offered by the garage.

I'd suggest he has a chat to the lad above wardle88 and takes a drink on top of what the garage has offered him, save yourselves the hassle and let the scooby live on in the hands of a fellow enthusiast, it deservers it having done that sort of milage.

Be interested to know what oil its been run on? How often its changed.
Keep the car, see how far it can go. Must be close to a record mileage now.

There must be two production lines at FHI for the 2.5 - one line whose workers can count to potato and another whose buff workers over tighten the head studs by three turns.

We've already got one Hawk WRX on over 100k and this one on over 250k.

Plus a mapped hatch I saw at 110k iirc.

But as above, I would be very interested in knowing what oil he uses and how often it was changed.

When he asks his dad the question the reply is "Oil change? Servicing? What's that?"

Joking aside it should have something like 24 stamps in the book and a lot of cambelt changes!

That is some serious mileage on an '06 car!

It actually looks very very good for a car with that sort of mileage. I'm guessing the majority of the miles were clocked cruising on a motorway?

too clean to break really,

the front end would bag you about £2000, but then after that not much more really,

as its a wrx there are no real upgrades to be had, so its not worth more in bits really.

impressive to say the least, goes to show how if un abused and cared for they will do the miles...
