Why don't you ask on a Mercedes forum? You might get some helpful info there

There are a lot of knowledgable people on this forum,
if I was buying the car for me then I would have joined a merc forum weeks ago but due to lack of time I was hoping a few people might be able to give me some areas of concern if there are any..

There's a lot better cars out there than the A class of this vintage. It's very awkward to work on so labour is expensive on any job engine/transmission wise for starters. In my experience they don't drive that well either although it's a while since I last drove one so maybe this model will have improved. They also bear no resemblance whatsoever to the current A class so values will fall away sharply I feel!

Hi mate ...

Well the suspension was very soft so bounced around quite abit
had pretty much zero power no grunt at all so it really put her off

Needed new tyres all round as well as front discs...

The bodywork was very clean that was about it.

Looking further into it today think they do a avantgarde I belive this modle has stiffer suspension I also belive they do a turbo diesel modle.

So really what I'm after for her us a a180 td adantgarde Pref in a 3 door but would consider a 5 door somthing around 2010 model, the new shape 2013 is def outta buget

Been been havin a look but cannot find that much

We have an 2008 A180CDI which does the family duties. Great car and has been utterly reliable in six years/55,000 miles - literally the only thing that has gone wrong is an erratic sensor which sometimes gives a false warning that a bulb is out.

In terms of labour - we are on a M-B fixed-price service plan which costs about £30/month. There are lots of independents around as well.

They're not particularly exciting to drive but that's not what these cars are about. The "sandwich" layout which has sadly been abandoned for the subsequent generation was truly innovative - there is no other car that packs so much interior space into such compact exterior dimensions - it's the ultimate school-run car.

IMO the later cars are much more conventional and less interesting as a result.

Well she has a buget of no more than 8k.... Would need to be diesel with abit of poke so a small turbo wouldn't go amiss.... Cheap to tax maybe around the £110 a year mark or less
Somthing with lowish milage and is nice on the eye.. And of course reliable
Needs to pack room for a 9st rottie in boot also

Any thought ..... Start you list below

I don't think any hatchback will comfortably accommodate a large dog in the boot. Perhaps an estate might be better suited?
