Default Can they really beat a Porsche Turbo?

Porsche Turbo 0-60 is around 4.5 seconds I guess.

Can a Subaru offer that sort of performance with a bit of tweaking?

If so, what's the point of owning the Porsche, apart from the badge.

Latest 911 turbo s 0-62 is 3.1 so you`ll need a bit more than tweaking

£10,000 could get you close but if your feeling flush and have a spare £20,000 plus the price of the car then no one will get in your way with a Porcshe badge.

Seen a couple of classic Imprezas go from 0-160+ in under 9 seconds.

Meh!

10K can build you a 9s car, including buying it. If you know what you're doing, of course.

If you keep in mind the price of a new 911 turbo (about £150,000 I think. ) you could probably get a new GTR and up it to 1000bhp, if not certainly enough to beat a 911 turbo.

4.5 0-60 is pretty slow, semi tuned scoob will easily do 4 or below.

I ran a 996 Porsche turbo for 18 months and I'm quite sure my admittedly non standard Bug would outperform it. Can't say what the latest 991 versions go like though, but the top model is over £140k so not a fair comparison.

There was a nice looking blob for sale with Hurst cars a bit back that had a forged engine and 550ish bhp for about £10,000. The 911 turbo has 550bhp but is geared to much higher speeds.

Could you imagine the disappointment if you had just spent £150,000+ on a supercar and a guy with a baseball hat in a 11 year old blob or even a classic gave you a hard time at the lights, maybe even beat you.

My boss has a carrera 4s . . Admittedly not a turbo variant but the look on his face when he realised he couldn't catch me was priceless

Ive had Subaru's for 11 years and have all been standard apart from a b4 rsk that was about 360bhp but have never had the pleasure of putting it up against a high value sports car my next one I want over 400bhp and hope to wipe the smug look of them m3/rs4 owners. Ive not got a problem, honest.

i have never really been in a tuned impreza but drive lots of 911 and id say that even my fairly standard classic could live with 996turbo but would struggle to touch a 997t and if it was a 991t with pdk(so lc) i would probably hide!

im not saying that there arent impreza's out there that couldnt see one off and boy how id love to own one

Also depends on road and driver because id hazzard a guess that 95% of the 991 you see on the road have never seen more than 0.6 bar of boost which is a real shame :/

I ran into a 997 C4 S the other week. He lost and was mighty pissed off about it too!!

Getting done by a 5 door wagon in your 911 has to hurt though .

Isn't a standard Type R about 3.6 seconds.

I'd say high 400's in a classic and the Porsche would be going nowhere up to about 150mph after that you'll need a hawk gearbox and 600bhp and it's bye, bye Porker, still think I'd rather be in the porsche at those speeds though, well any speed as a matter of fact.

I'd also say that neither are really made for that though, both more about driving pleasure than flat out speed.

With the new dual clutch transmissions, the seamless acceleration is very hard to beat with a manual so you best have a sizable pwr advantage

The other thing with the Porker is it will do that all day long with consistency and reliability. Granted it's very expensive to buy and hardly comparable to a Scooby in terms of vfm but you've got to admire the engineering.

With the weather we have in this country I know which would win most of the time.

Once had a plank in a Range Rover very upset that he was being overtaken on a snow covered dual carriageway by some Japanese car.

And he had the advantage of the used inner lane.

Yes but what if you 'mildly tweak' the Porsche? I was at a tuning day a few weeks ago where all manner of expensive machinery was present (SLSs, GTRs, Ferrari California, Gallardo, R8, C63 Black series, EVOs etc. etc.) and by far the fastest accelerating car there was a Porsche 911 Turbo that had been 'breathed on' by a tuning house in Germany.

In fact it is probably the fastest accelerating road car I have ever seen. It also has a Porsche badge on it which means it has true racing pedigree and a shed load of kudos to boot.

Anyway comparing modified Scoobs to proper performance supercars is just silly. As Maz said the Porsche will do it all day long with no worries and has full manufacturer backup into the bargain. Not taking anything away from Scoobs, but let's not compare fillet steak with burgers
