My car always starts with choke,you turn it over (without touching the throttle)it fires and kicks over at 1800-2000 rpm for a moment then drops to 1500rpm and then over the next minuteor so it drops to 800~rpm

Is this normal? Seems odd it starts with choke when it's 20 odd degrees outside and it's been sat in the sun,how cold can it think it is?

Don't know much about cars do we

It may be 20 degrees but engines run at around 95 degrees quite a difference. So even on a warm day for us it's still a cold start for a car. It will warm up a bit quicker though.

No such thing as a choke these days either. The engine management kind of simulates what the choke on a carburettor would have done but it a much more controlled and elegant fashion. Basically a rich mix i.e. less air & more fuel going into the engine for a while whilst it warms up + more revs at idle to stop it stalling.

I must say being old enough for my first car to have a carburettor (i.e. not fuel injected) I was really glad to see the back of it and my next and every other car after that has been fuel injected. Pain in the **** to start on a cold day, all too easy to flood the engine, and just generally a bit poo

Yeah alright I know its not traditional choke, but its doing the same thing albeit controlled by the ecu not a lever in the cabin.

My bike starts and ticks over slower than the Scooby, just thought it seemed quote high for a car to start and rev when ambient temperature is high.
