Default Wrx exhaust reccomendations

I currently have a prodrive exhaust on my wrx blobeye (with PPP) and as nice as it is I want something a bit louder, something with a nice burble at idle and sound when on the move.

I was happy until I drove my cousins sti with a Blitz Nur Spec R system (decatted) but I have to say as much as I loved it, it is insanely loud, so wanting something a bit quieter.

He suggested a Nur Spec 'S' but searching eBay and forums they are like rocking horse ****..

So what would you recommend for a wrx? If you have an after market system on your wrx what is it and would you reccomendations it?

What about Milltek and scorpion systems?

If you have a Blitz 'S' exhaust for sale then let me know (,")

TSL group N - a lovely sounding tail pipe. deep burble and makes the right noise when on boost.

If you want some proper noise decat and de-resonate.

;-)

Don't want something that has 'Proper Noise' as the car is my daily driver.

Just put the backbox on you will be impressed and if you decat and leave resonator its well within daily driver limits.

Have a look on you tube there are a few vids.

Thanks for that,
I like the sound of that, not sure what mods the car in the video has I think it could well be a contender... If I can find one.

So what else do people have

Just try a deresonated centre section with the prodrive backbox it's what I had on my wrx and it was just right burble and not to loud.

Not something I thought of, I don't suppose you have a sous clip of that do you?

There is a blitz (resonated but I expect this would be louder than what I currently have) centre on eBay ATM, any idea if that would fit straight on to the prodrive box?

What centre did you use?

Also anyone know if this will mate with the Prodrive Exhaust that I have?

Just had a message from the seller who has told me that the it has been modified to fit as a std centre pipe.

Would you take a risk and buy (if right money) or would you leave it be as its been modified...

I have a classic Impreza with JapSpeed shotguns on it. Not seen them before on a scoob but there about, just quite rare to see apparently.
Anyway they sound well and are pretty loud and raspy. Not compared them to any other exhaust tbh and to look at there not in your face as there basically 2 2.5" (I think) pipes with no back box. I have this with a sports cat and a huge resonator in the center section. I dread to think what it would sound like in the car with out the resonator lol

So given my desire for a louder sound what is the verdict.

Is it better to simply replace the back box or replace the centre pipe for a non resonated one...

I think I am more confused then when I started lol

Id say replacing the centre pipe with a non resonated one will give you a louder exhaust than just replacing the back box. My 3" cat back japspeed may be up for sale soon mate, not sure if it will be loud enough for you though.

had the TSL on my bugeye, first exhaust I bought for it.. decatted too and after about a month I took it off, got bored of it as it wasn't that loud, changed it for a Nur Spec R which was far too loud, Replaced that with the STi Genome and loved it.. I then sold the Genome and got the Nur Spec S which I was very happy with, great sound but not over powering like the Nur Spec R.. have to say that I should never have sold the Genome, its my personal favourite.

also had the original H&S Scooby Sport backbox on my RA..sounded just right

Shall have to have a look to see if any Genome exhausts available.

Also given the talk about possibly getting a non resonated centre I found this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330459588569

Coming from a BMW background previously I would happily have a milltek on my car but don't know what they are like on impreza's

the Genome is very rare these days and expensive too.. expect to pay around £300 for a second hand one.. de resonated centre doesn't increase the sound all that much if I remember right.. maybe a little but not much.

H&S Afterburner Vortex is another I had, great sounding backbox

not the best vid but you get the idea (click the pic)

this is the Genome (not my vid)

I have a prodrive sports cat and an H&S system, sounds great, I do 50 odd miles a day and at cruise speeds a conversation is still easy. Foot down and there is a decent but subdued Subaru noise, no problem leaving the house at 0530 every day.

I have a genome on mine with a deresonated centre but it is loud when car opened up, my old wrx had a prodrive back box with deresonated centre and that was a quieter but defo sounded good, if it wasn't the fact I have a jdm and want a jdm exhaust I would try one on my current car, but the howl from the jdm suits the genome

Thanks for the reply.
Don't suppose you have a sound clip of the prodrive with deresonated centre? Was it much louder?

The one in the link above has a resonator in it still. PM one of the breakers on here as they will have lots lying around i would think.

A de resonated center makes the sound deeper rather than louder IMO. For a daily I would stick to the Prodrive BB and just de resonate the center.

I had the above albeit with a sports cat and on an STI, it sounded good but sounded better with an Afterburner Vortex BB on it (though it wasn't my daily).

Thanks for the advise, I will contact a couple of the Breakers and see if they have anything that fits the bill so to speak.

Looks like I'm going to be broke by the end of this month

Gurj, I have a Classic s.s. OEM bore de-res centre sitting here doing nothing. Used to be on my STi 5 ( joined to a Prodrive BB, as it happens).

No dents or anything. Very good condition. Doesn't come with the fitting kit, so you'll need to re-use your existing bolts/springs/nuts/donut gasket.

I can post pics up, if interested...?

Yeah I'm interested, please do.
What make was it?
What were your opinions of it once fitted?

Thanks

Can't remember the make - I'll try and dig out the receipt, if I can find it. For all intents and purposes, it looks like H&S- or Cobra-like quality.

Can't remember the sound/loudness, as it was ages ago. It would've sounded 'fruity' though - as the reason I fitted it and the Prodrive, was to replace the really quiet JASMA system that was on the car when I bought it.

A de-res centre should at least 'deepen' the exhaust note's timbre. But can't 'guarantee' anything, obviously.

I have a standard system on my wrx with the H+S afterburner and it sounds so much better than the prodrive I originally had on it not to loud at all but makes a deep rumble
