Just looking some opinions to help with buying.
Looking to buy my first scoob. Its gonna be my special toy and wont be used very often as I work abroad most of the year.
I'm still looking, but have narrowed my search down to two very different cars and think ill seal the deal on one of them within the next couple of days.
Option 1 is a '99 V5 Sti in silver. Its a very clean car, mostly original, wheels and exhaust have been changed and has the new model brembo brakes. Its had an engine rebuild only 4k miles ago. Basically it needs nothing, it has a good history and its already perfect. The seller needs 4500, possibly could get it for 43 or 44.
Option 2 is a '96 Sti Type R in sonic blue. The car is in reasonable condition however it has rust bubbling at the n/s rear quarter panel, the taillights could do with being replaced as they have went all cracked with age and are letting in water. The d/s window is vertically scratched by rubbing on something inside the door. The interior looks well sat-in and just generally looks like a car that has been sitting outside for a while.
Has a few mods including wheels, ss exhaust, etc and on test drive it seems to drive pretty well, pulls strong, no noises or smoke and it has the dccd.
The owner is looking for £4200 but would prob settle at around 4 I guess.
So just want to take on board everyones opinions and advice. Do I take the real clean car that appears to be the sensible option, or do I take the one that's a little more exotic but will need quite a bit of TLC to get into the condition I want.
I'm wrestling in my head that the Type R will be the best looking car if I spend money on it, but that the V5 will be the better car underneath. Will the V5 be as much fun to drive as the Type R?
Thanks to anyone who contributes.

Personally I would go type R they are so much fun with the close ratio box reaching 60mph in 4.5 sec as does the type RA
Sti is also a cracking car but I would hold out for a better condition type R
For 4.5k you should get a rust free one but they are rare to find
