Where's the best place to place a trolley jack?
#1
All,
Anybody out there able to advise me where i should be jacking up the front of my Impreza with a trolley jack?
I tried under the front subframe near the towing eye, behind the front wheel arch on one of the crossmembers of the floorpan,
and then under the suspension arm near the wheel, but on none of these did it feel particularly safe, so i copped out.
Where's the safest place to take the weight?
thanks,
Terry

The jacking points are on the sills just behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels. You will see a gap in the sideskirts underneath in the correct place.
There is no place at the front you can jack it up centrally. Certainly not the sump with the undershield off - all the weight will be on the engine mounts and you will not want the engine to make a surprise appearance through the bonnet!

on the back i use the underneath of the diff.gets both wheel sin the air and is fairly stable(remember to chock front wheels though or you'll be chasing it down the road)
as for front like above i use jacking points.

I use a trolley jack with a rubber pad head, at the front I place it under the floorpan near the front, you can see the a part of the pan just behind the suspension mounting points that is beefy enough, at the rear I use the mounting point for the rearward facing control arm.
