Default Cobra exhasts

Morning,

Anybody had any experience with Cobra sports exhausts?

In spite of having a sports cat in it mine just failed an emissions test. frown
Their website claims it will pass a uk emissions test, hence the purchase, but I'm having a bit of difficulty with them as I don't have the original invoice.

I just wondered if anybody else had had any similar problems.

Yeah, it's a 100 cell sports cat you have, you need to get it red hot!!

Maybe a silly question but.. would wrapping the cat be another solution? At a cost of longevity..

Take it for a good blast before the test or find yourself a friendly MOT garage.

I spoke to Cobra about these the other day and they're actually 200 cell cats, so should theoretically atleast be easier to get through the MOT.

You can always try this http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...tMotFailureFix I've not tried it my self so don't know if it work's but maybe someone else can comment, it doesn't say but if you were to do it I would imagine that the car needs to be well warmed up first before attempting.

Interesting idea but it doesn't entirely make sense to me...

"The fuel is being evaporated and burt in stages throughout. It hits the CAT membrane and this causes a catalyst which makes the fuel burn so rapidly and hot it removes all traces of CO."

A LOT of the advice on SIDC/scoobypedia seems to be a bit odd to say the least at time's but you never know, I would like to know what the most knowledgeable of members think though.

Very strange, I have a full 3" turbo back (catless) and it easily passes the emissions test annually, if yours cant pass it with some sort of cat fitted, it wouldnt be the cat i'd be looking into.

How old is the cobra cat? Also as you 100% sure it's a cobra? They are 200cel as mentioned above, or at least mine certainly is.

Something doesn't sound right. Mine is 3 years old and passes MOT every year.

As above, I'd get someone to do a diagnosis on your car first. Could be a sensor.

Lambda readings are fine though on the print out. As are all except carbon monoxide.

Went out this morning to "heat up the cat" and then took it straight for a test. Made no difference whatsoever! :-(

Think I need to get the map looked at.

Never had any issue with Cobrasport. If you can prove your purchase, don't their exhausts have a long guarantee??

Yeah I think its a 25yr guarantee with invoice! I sent them a copy of the credit card statement...still waiting for them to dignify it with a response!!!

The exhaust did well on the trackday last week though, a measly 96db!!

Even if your car passed the emission test (which it wouldn't without a cat) it should still fail as the cat is missing.

Yes it is. All cars from 1994 that came with a cat from the factory, has to have it in place for the mot. That's if it fails or passes on the emissions.
