I reckon you've got a loose earth; from the -ve post on the battery to the car body (ground). Check the tightness and any corrosion of the bolt and/or nut holding the cable to the car. Could well be loose (or heavily corroded). Or both!

I had this on an old Fiesta Mk.I 1.1 lol... Got to work okay... Left work later that afternoon... Nothing. No lights on dash, or anything. Looked under bonnet and noticed the really loose bolt NOT holding the ground cable to the wing!

If none of that, can you not borrow one of those testers which tell you (via an array of LEDs) whether your battery is on the way out, or alternator knackered?

Not sure where it's attached to on Subarus. You'll have to chase the cable...

Thats what i was thinking, check all the earth points as joz has said.
I once had a similar problem on my type r cutting out intermittently and it was a loose earth on the inlet manifold.

Sounds like the problems I had recently, turned out to be the starter motor, in my case there was water in it.

Yeah, check all cables going from the -ve post on the battery. Should have a ' - ' (minus sign) by it, stamped into the battery's plastic casing.

The main ground will be the fattest cable (the one with the big clamp at its end, clamped around the battery post).

Yes, if you take your intercooler off, it is just below it.

You might be able to get access to it from underneath without taking the intercooler off.
