Default My beloved scooby stolen and crashed!!!

Had my house broken into last night and thieves took my WRX scooby keys and drove off crashing a few miles away into lamp post and it caught fire. I haven't seen car yet awaiting scenes of crime to examine it, but it sounds like a total loss! Any advice on my situation, I've just put new tyres all round last week, among a list of mods over the last year, (Miltek 3" exhaust,Brembos, Ekutek map etc., etc.,, and will probably get bottom book price from insurers.
I did declare mods to insurers who would only increase value by £600!

Any advice off anyone been in similar situation re all my goodies on car???

Bad times dude.

Always buy it back from the insurers and make up some of the loss (or hopefully make a little profit) on selling the parts that are still intact. Fingers crossed theres loads to sell

Sorry to hear that, unless you had an agreed valuation you may struggle to get value plus mods

They sometimes let you buy the car back as it saves them a lot of hassle.
Try and make it into the deal that you get the car back and salvage what parts you can.

Some might say it was a shame they weren't fried in the fire!

Gutted

i think vehicles that are fire damaged are recorded as cat A or B, and can't be sold to members of the public, only registered breakers

could you get it recovered back to your house, you can charge them storage fee's. and if they only offer bottom book you 'could' swap all the good bit's back to standard

Sorry to hear that. In my experience the insurance will never pay ut what you are owed for the car. Hope you get some resolution.

Find out how bad the fire was before you agree to buy it back. May not be worth it if crashed & burned out!

Out of curiosity do people use after market steering wheel locks etc?

After all the money we spend on our cars £100-150 will get you at least two good security products but even £30 in Halford's will bump up your security.

Not much use if they break in to your house and take the keys though.

Put the keys to the locks etc separate, (I put my keys in a safe place) but not all cars are stolen in this way, was more of a general thought than specific to this thread.

Sorry to hear about this.

Hopefully you'll get a courtey car and as least hassle as possible.

I had a similar situation years ago.
Car got nicked and went into a bollard following a police chase.

Ins co. noticed the sticker from the garage where I bought it (well known 'cheapy') and tried it on.

Fortunately it had not long passed an MoT and the MoT garage was good enough to write a letter stating that the car's condition was very good.
I also had a few receipts (I think a tyre or 2 for the MoT etc).

Parker's guide valued it at between £2.5 and 3K, Ins co offered £1,200 then I think £1,800 final offer.
I complained to their Complaints dept and to be fair they got a totally independent assessor to have a look.

Result was an offer of £2,800.

I wouldn't fret about the ins co trying to do you over, just wait until you see what they come up with, otherwise you're just adding to the anger.
If you do have to argue the toss prepare for it to be drawn out. Took me 9 months I think.

Good luck with sorting it quickly and to your satisfaction.

I'm about to have a tracker fitted which not only allows me track the location of the car but also control the car from my mobile phone. If someone drives off in it (even with the keys) I can turn the car off by remote and completely immobilise it.
Not much good if your asleep though I suppose.

Sad news about your car op, really hope the insurance company come good for you.

Get a Clifford with the stealth keypad, if not entered within a mile the car turns off

I wouldn't leave keys on display as that will almost guarantee your car is taken. Unlikely that an opportunistic burglar will risk waking occupants looking for car keys unless they're stealing to order... and those types of organised burglaries are usually for high value cars to be exported.

Also, never leave keys near front door. Scumbags can 'fish' keys from surprising distances using poles through letterbox.

Suprised no has mentioned it yet.

What did the OP expect, they'll have anything away in Liverpool. Even if it's nailed down!

Hopefully you'll not have too much grief with the insurance company.

Awful news mate, happens around my area all the time and then the *******s joyride the crap out of them.

I doubt the police will catch or do anything about the people who did it but hopefully the insurance guys come through.

Out of interest, do any if you use steering locks or the likes? I only have a Toad Ai606 fitted to my Classic, thinking now I might need to step things up a bit.

I was thing one of those and maybe a gear stick lock of some sort. I can also use a second map with no boost and a low rev and speed limit if they do get it away.
