Not sure that was the question

I've used http://www.hids4u.co.uk/ previously, good quality kits.

They are a definite improvement over standard but putting HID in a non projector light just blinds everyone else on the road, If you have to do it and cant be told different then as above and get something 3-4000k to look at least reasonable.

Save your money and get OSRAM Nightbreakers. Cheaper, reliable and not chavvy at all.

Good quality halogens are often a better bet than poor quality xenons.

Fed up of tripping over them

Well I removed the HIDs and fitted Nightbreakers lol.

Only because the extra wiring in the bay was messing with my OCD though

How do you find them in comparison to the HID's Paul?

I haven't driven the car in the dark yet lol but they seem 'warmer' if that makes sense?! The HIDS weren't massively blue, just a nice cool white, good low beam performance, not as impressive on the main beams due to the scatter you get with the classic headlight units.

Osram night breakers are comparable with Halfords Ultra Brilliance Bulbs, either of those will see you right, but then you'll want white led side light bulbs to match, don't buy cheap LED bulbs off ebay, because they will be intermittent

Dont be fooled by comments thast halogens are better
.

A good quality Xenon kit is like night and day (literally), you wont go back once you've gone xenon, but you will be disappointed when you fit expensive stone age halogens (been there done it!)

I recently bought Osram Nightbreakers Ultimate, but not really knowing what HID's are like (from behind them) I couldn't tell you what there like in comparison. But I can tell you that the Ultimate are much better than standard bulbs and do give you a good beam on the road and not sprayed out all over the place.

I will say though, have a good look on-line as I bought mine for £10.98 in the proper plastic packaging and not the bubble blister pack

I didn't rate the Osram's.

Currently have Phillips Rally 100W bulbs fitted.

I agree entirely, I have only had advisory's about the HID's at MOT time. There is no comparison between halogen and HID... Oh but maybe I am wrong and all the vehicle manufacturers are actually using 'nightbreakers' on their top end products...

totally agree.
Worth the money, my HID light up the whole road for as far as the eye can see. Plus I haven't had anyone flash me to imply my main beam is on either.

Why does everybody get a hard on about Osram Nightbreakers?
I got a pair of there latest model 'unlimited' recently & they are very disappointing on dipped beam.
The latest Philips Xtreme are + 130% & p1ss all over the Osrams.

A: They're illegal with your classic shaped headlamps unless you are skilful enough to modify the housings to fit projectors.*
B: Read this thread https://www.scoobynet.com/lighting-a...he-market.html

Or, for a classic, Philips 100/90 rally bulbs, with relays only on the dipped wiring.

The beam spread/scatter, with the classic lens, is well controlled. They look no brighter than the light levels of a modern car, on dipped.

Rubbish - they are not illegal. The law only states for factory fitted xenons require a self levelling system and headlight washers (my JDM STI with factory xenons dosent even have headlight washers), there is no law for these things needed to be in place for aftermarket xenon kits.

Where do you get your car MOT'd then? (isn't yours actually a newage??) I have had the JDM OEM bug projector lamps from factory and my car has the 0,1,2,3 levelling switch, it didn't have the washer system I concur. I recently facelifted my car and purchased the OEM JDM Blob HID lamps from a 2005, which don't have projectors. I can tell you the MOTer moaned his bollocks off claiming I'd retrofitted an after market HID kit in normal lamps. (I assume this is because he decided no projector + no washers = I must have)

Anyway the thread is about a classic. The spread pattern is scattered - they were designed for halogen, the OP has a classic. I have no intention of wanting to **** off / blind other road users, I read that the OP wants a cheap solution, I say get which ever of the Halfords Ultra brilliance, or The latest Philips Xtreme is on offer when you go to buy, and avoid the grief.

Strictly speaking, the MoT tester COULD fail it as the bulb and light housing are not compatible...they carry the wrong e-marks.

I'd never fit an H4 HID. They are a b@stard contraption that maybe be brighter than an H4, but CANNOT control both main beam and dipo beam as well as a halogen bulb. This is due to design constraints, and is fact.

Sadly, many users are either satisfied with decent dips, (which is what 99% of MoT testers look for: beam pattern), and cr@p main beam, or are taken in by the extra brightness and THINK they have a better light.....placing the car in a proper lighting tunnel will show the error.

I have modded mine to take projectors: https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...mpler-way.html. The post aslo includes pics of the pin-sharp beam patern, better even than halogen and FAR better than ANY aftermarket HID kit.

You could also fit driving lights:

That was my classic with Moretes with uprated halogens in the outers and standard inners.

And that's with Hella1000FF HID driving lights.

All three pics taken on a fixed camera setting to show the extra light.
