I know it is not a mod that most of you scooby drivers would do but as i am not one i need a bit of info on them if possible.

I have 1 webber 45 carb and am in need for another as well as the jets and linkage and manifold. Its actually for a 306 GTi6 but i thought that some of you might have something in the garage before you got involved in the scooby world.

Hopefully someone could help me, or advise me where to get a cheap brandnew one from.
I suppose i need to get it on the rollers as well, any suggestions in the leicester area???

Have a look in the Motoring News out on a Wednesday. A lot of classified adverts from Rally based companies. We've used the DCOE 45's before mostly on Astra GTE 16v's, but they do need set up on the rollers.

N8THN,
If you have to change the Chokes, auxillary venturi's, main jets, emulsion tubes, air corrector jets, idle jets, and the pump jet items, to achieve the rquired calibration for your engine, then it could be very costly to use THAT carb.
If it is set to somewhere near the required setting then maybe not so costly.

Existing chokes can be bored out slightly, but cannot be made smaller, although doing this is not ideal, but if money is tight and you have acess to machining facilities ie lathe.

You would be best talking to M.A.D. or L.A.D. in Yorkshire, I cannot remember their title properly, (you should be able to find their number in Fast Car, Max Power etc, who tune the Peugots, or if they are still in buisiness Skip Brown, who used to be the Talbot/Chrysler specialists back in the 1970's.

They should be able to tell you the rough settings for carb type and choke sizws etc.

It may be cheaper overall to buy a complete kit ready jetted for your car.
The distributor should normally include a rolling road session to finally calibrate the carbs, without youi needing to 'buy' additional jets etc.

Be aware also that the number after the carb ie 40DCOE-2, or 40DCOE-13 (-13's are Ford Lotus Twin Cam Carbs) indicates the pump jet size and stroke, and 'may not?' be easily altered.

Talk to a specialist before you shell out £250? + on one carb only to find your existing one is of little use.

Good luck.

Cheers MTR

Cheers david and MTR i think i have just discovered in the last few hours that the Motorsport scene is far cheaper than the modified car scene. I suppose this is down to those max power nova drivers.

I have already seen an advert with rally design which would save me money to start with. My old man just said to me that all i nedd to do in terms of calibration is to speak to a webber specialist and ask them what set up i am going to need in terms of trumpets and jets etc: for my specific car noting the cam and other engine mods if any.

This should save me money as apposed to paying the rolling raod company to tell me that info and charge me more money for their time. What does this sound like to you lot????????

Cheers for all the info. if you or anyone else thinks of anything else get back to me please.

This and the RSOC site is sooooo much better than the PUG sites. Oh well cheers all i will lwt you know the results.

N8THN,
I feel that you really should get the set up calibrated properly on a rolling road, by someone with experience of side draught carbs, Weber DCOE, Dellorto DHLA, & SK's for example.

Your dad is right in some respects, given that it is a standrad car, no trick cams (which have the greatest influence on carb settings). But also because it is not a standard set up, the choke and jet sizes may not be readily available, to guarantee good running.

Set up correctly they will work well, although your car will sup fuel, but set up badly, and it will sup even more fuel, and not produce optimum power.

One thing is for sure, though, it will sound absolutely Bl**dy fantastic, like a proper engine should sound like.
Far better than my Impreza turbo.

Cheers MTR fondly remembering my Escort Mexico (with 40's on )days.

Cool

Cheers MTR for the help i will have to investigate further with some PUG specialists i think as well as some Motorsport people.
Its probably going to be quite expensive i just hope that i get the perfromance i am after. Those 45's, decat pipe, exhaust and a low mileage GTi6(167 bhp as standard) i should be on my way to 200 bhp shouldn't i.??????
Were you at Castle Combe at the weekend i might have seen your car.
I was chating to a bloke with a version 6 STI type-r dark blue (not sonic blue) great bloke any ideas it was a W reg. the only dark blue one there.

I thought i would add a piccie of my next car and you can hold me to that. I will have one by the time i am 21 i have to.
