I remember looking at all the options when I had my new 2.0 Sport back in 1998 as I'd come out of a Legacy Turbo and desperately wanted more power.
To be honest the advice above is where its at, but you might be better putting that money towards a turbo / insurance for it?
I just settled on a decent panel air filter, and some better front discs and pads and drive the pants off it.
You could always go the scrapyard bonnet-with-scoop look if you want the looks?

For 18 thats not a bad car, when i was that age i was in a 50bhp Vauxhall lol
The exhaust will add abit of bhp, my first Impreza was a none turbo, had jap exhaust, best mod i did was replace the cat. You could get a custon decat pipe made, or their £200 from japspeed
Other option is Nitrous Oxide kit

As said above a "chip" will not magic up another 25bhp on a normally aspirated Subaru engine, you will gain maybe 5bhp with a panel filter & exhaust on a sport but the one area that is worth looking at on a sport is the front brakes, sports use 260mm front discs with single pot calipers but early turbo's use 277mm twin pot calipers and later ones use 296mm discs with 4 pot calipers, all bolt straight onto a sport provided that you have all of the parts.

Sam,
The car will handle well and be reliable as long as you don't **** about with chips and "go faster" gismo's. The OEM stuff is pretty good and your not paying for a name or image. The good Impreza's are fast becoming rarer and even Sports will be sort after one day.
The advice is save up, learn to drive the car, go turbo in a few years when your insurance comes down. You may want the fastest, gadget laden, loudest, ICE'd up ride but that can come later. There are plenty of places for parts like ICP, Camskills, Scoobyword, Scoobyparts, Revolution 247 etc etc. This site as a very good parts and spares section so your quite spoilt.
Scoobynet is not always the best place for advice as you'll find out soon enough and other websites are available.

Ignore the above advice. Blow all of your money and learn the hard way like most of us have done. We can give you all the "right" advice but at your age it won't get taken on board. Waiting just a year or so will help on the no claims front though.
If I had taken my Dad's advice at your age I could be in a decentish Porsche on newish plates by now. I'm not! I do have some great life experience (mainly with AA tows). I keep saying it was worth it but I really fancy that Porsche. Just saying.

As said get a decent service, and to be honest i'd try doing it yourself rather that paying out silly money for a garage to. I spent tones of money modding cars in the past, but like some off the others i don't regret it its good experience and good fun.
I got my first none turbo at 21 after smashing up my tuned up Corsa sport, and then 6 months later bought Wrx aswell, lost loads on running 2 cars and insurance, but owning 2 scoobys at 21
