Default Whats this??? Air leak???

Been out today and the car stalled twice and was idling really
roughly. Got home and opened the bonnet and think the leak
is coming from this but what is it?

just sprayed it with soapy water to see if there are any bubbles
from a air leak but none.

Think if that was leaking you'd just suck in a tiny bit of unmetered air and run slightly leaner.

Ok, on NASIOC they are calling it a 'purge valve', can it be
removed and cleaned, is it possible this is sucking/blowing
air that I can't see?

its part of the crankcase ventilation system, I believe it also allows the petrol tank to 'breathe' as well, you can clean the valve with a petroleum based fluid.
If you have a further look on the NASIOC site you will find a link to delete it as well, the only issue is that the petrol tank builds up a vacuum as there is no vent for it.
I have heard that the cure is to drill a small (1-2mm) hole in the plastic cap, there is also some info on that there too

PS. you wont get bubbles unless its faulty in the right place to leak under boost, and of course you were hanging onto the engine at the time of boosting.....

Usually it operates as a vacuum system.

Ahhhhh, now I see. So would a leak there cause the idling
and stalling issue I had?

If I disconnect each of the pipes one by one and hold my finger over
it would I notice/hear a difference on the idle. I would like to find out
which pipe is leaking but have no idea how?

Pull the hose off the intake pipe and see if the idle issues gets worse if it doesn't then you know the smaller leak isn't causing the idle issue.

Just remember to put it back on as you might draw debris through it.

Give your MAF sensor a blast with brake cleaner too.

Disregard all previous as I think I have found the problem.

The problem is a sh177y forge d/v which seems to have
gone kapputt and has prompted me to search for a oem
valve.

In my defence it was on the car when I bought it but I am now
of the age where I really should know better.
