It really does make me wonder how people who are supposedly performance car enthusiasts dont understand the restrictions of the cat, especially on vehicles before the technology was improved to optimise the restrictions. I mean, its not even THAT complicated, but hey ho, some are just ignorant I guess.
Mine made 27bhp more with the CAT removed and mapped again (it was mapped as standard as well). I believe UK cars may see more as they have two cats.
However that 3.5" exhaust system will be doing you NO favours on a standard EJ20.
You need to find a friendly tester, but its getting tougher now, especially as they will lose their licence if they get reported for running the gasses from another vehicle when testing one vehicle.
Or buy a sports cat, you could sell that exhaust and get a good 2.5" one with a sports cat, you will see power increase and lower down torque. Win Win really

Yes sweetheart exactly that, hence why I answered the question. Standard system, then with a Hayward decat downpipe.
Its because, this has been a discussion, that has been proved time and time again on car forums for years and years, its not an area of knowledge that needs questioning or even proving anymore, only by the newbies or ignorant.
Its not even worth explaining the technical reasons why to you, but the search engine and google are your friend as you are not technically minded (dont worry, many aren't)
Why do you people do it? Yes lets go spend money on a decat or a sports cat and any costs in fittings, gaskets, mapping etc....because it dosent do anything? Well that would just be daft.
Stop trolling, and accept the knowledge

However, If you want to pay me for my time, then I will. Drop me a PM with your email address and ill send you an invoice, once paid, i'll tell you all you ask (until the time you paid for runs out)
Can't say fairer than that cherub.

As This isn't your thread, I've answered the OP with helpful knowledgable info, make a thread yourself if you want answers? Isn't that an idea!
It seems from your previous posts there hasn't been a single thread where you have been helpful to another person. Interesting that.
Enjoy your day, it'll cost you from now on to ask me anything , I look forward in hearing from you. I helped you out last time in your internet security knowledge (or lack of) can't keep doing the same for free

If it helps, my car went from 290bhp to 315bhp and the only change was from standard exhaust to 3in decat.
How much did that cost me? Just fitting as the exhaust came from a donor car that I already owned (and exhaust was on that car when I bought it) but was written off in an accident.
How much does it cost each year at MOT? Nothing. My car goes in for service and MOT, I collect it a day later with a nice new MOT certificate and invoice for the servicing. Any work they do to make it MOT ready is included. Aren't I lucky?
To keep it on the OP's topic, as others have said, either fit a car at MOT time or get lucky with MOTer.

Wow, you are just like a 5 year old, repeating the same question over and over 'cos you don't like the reply you are hearing.

What our resident troll dosen't understand is it dosent matter how big you exhaust bore is, if there are multiple restrictions in the cat, the bore wont really change the power output as it will be AFTER the cats. So changing the exhaust with cats in place wont see much of a return.
Ah well, cest la vie, trolls will be trolls! Keeps us entertained.

What else did I change? I removed the cat, I added a decat exhaust. So yes, just the CAT.
edit: I lie, I also changed the steering wheel. But I dont think I gained any bhp or torque from that.

I de-catted the up pipe on my WRX Wagon and it helped to raise the BHP to 276BHP and the torque went up a similar amount this was after a map tweak. The response to the throttle was better, in gear was more rapid and inconjunction with the remap the fuel consumption improved.
The driving characteristics where better, allowed for better overtaking and in general conditions.
Why did I do it?
PPP was £1500 at the time but a tuner remap, all the bits, more BHP came to less than £1000.
No brainer!

My WRX Wagon was 256 BHP on remapping but did have a K&N panel filter, WR Sport back box, Walbro and deresonated centre pipe.

You struggle to get the answer you want because you're a pedantic *****! Every post I have see of yours, you're questioning why somebody is doing something rather than just helping them. Please go away.
