Default What could my engine fit in to?

I spent a lot forging my WRX engine - could I drop it in to an STI? If I could find a clean spares/repairs or something?

Short or long engine?

Long engine depends on heads/inlet manifold used.

Short motor will fit any.

basically, long engine = full engine with turbo, up pipe, etc, virtually a full ready to run engine

short engine = engine block with crank and pistons and not much more. then add your choice of turbo, heads, etc

sounds like yours is the long engine, you might need different heads and a few other bits, but it should fit with a few different parts

Contact a breaker on here see if there are any cars without engines.

Get hold of that S202 shell and drop it into that!

Thanks guys I think you may have mentioned this to me before @thenewgalaxy (dropping the engine into an STI) makes sense instead of trying to force the WRX to be an STI!

Guess I'll make some coins back selling the Hawk minus engine?

You seem like a sensible lad, just think about where you want to take the car. You've got an awesome engine with an alright car around it.

I mean if you want to go for something really hardcore, a WRX is a better place to start because you chuck everything away anyway.

But even dropping that engine into a Bug STI (assuming you want to stick with newage cars) would mean little work aside dropping the engine in and uprating the pads. The only reason I mentioned the S202 is because I have one, love it, and have seen there's one being broken in Fleetwood.

I'd see if anyone was willing to do a swap plus cash.

I'm kinda torn on what to do, I could upgrade the suspension, add a big brake kit, bigger turbo etc. Would it even go into a Hatch? guess these would be harder to find don't might paying for a clean example sans engine!

Should go into a hatch yeah, the values of those things is sitting around the £9-10k mark for early high mileage examples, so a car without an engine would be comparatively low cost. I think the issue would be finding one unfortunately.

The hatch is probably the best car Subaru ever made IMO so I like your thinking

Very much taken to the Hatches now - I might save those pennies for a while and see if I strike lucky with a non-runner or something - don't they have the same 2.5 engines that I had to fix?

Yh they did. Best bet would to find a hatch STi with an engine failure buy that and sell/scrap the old engine, ancillaries, etc.

Yeah, obviously the STI engines and WRX engines differ but they have the same block.

I'm sure I heard Adgespeed had a GR or GV saloon in.

No it's not!

Long engine is heads and correctly attached to the short engine.

Got **** all to do with turbo etc.

I'll keep an eye out, seems some breakers prefer breaking them as they are hard to get even for them, guess they make more profit? I shall persevere!

Hatch 2.5 engines are dual avc's, yours is single avc's, not a straight forward swop, just sell yours & buy an STI.

hmm I may carry on upgrading the WRX then, I could sell and get a Hatch STI but I'd want a forged version so I wouldn't be terrified looking at the temp gauge!

Approx what do you think I would need to add to the deal if I sold mine?

Around 3k from a specialist but you could save 1k if you did it yourself or found a trusted mechanic. Obviously the price would vary if it did require much other work.

This wouldnt need a rebuild being a 2.0:

Or this:

You could get this and then get the block rebuilt:
