I have (from new) a November '58 Forester diesel, 53,000 miles, full Scooby dealer service record. recent journey covered 150 miles then in slow traffic, engine "died" warning lights ABS, Traction Control & Hillstart Assist showed but no engine management failure warning. Managed to restart after 2 minutes break, did another 150 miles, short stop then restart ok, failed again after 500 yards! Restarted & did 25 miles, stopped overnight & restarted again ok. Local Scooby specialist found no computer diagnostic fault but failed again yards from garage. Next 25 miles no problem. Warning lights as above, reset after tuning off & restarting.

Mystery but unreliable so am reluctant to trust for homeward journey. Any help much appreciated. RSVP asap please.

When an injector started failing on my BMW diesel it just cut out with no indication on the dashboard as to why. Could be similar.

Think they can test them simply be measuring the resistance of each one.

Thanks Graz. In the event, after suggestions of "suction control valve" & "crankshaft sensor" possibilities it turned out to be a wiring problem of loom touching on intercooler & fraying, causing intermittent cut out. Fixed by great dealer in Ashburton, so far (150 miles) no problems; solution much cheaper than early possibilities. Apparently has been seen before on early model Forester diesels. Thanks again.
