Default Anyone running coilovers on the road?

Just wondering whether to go down the coilover route or something like a pro drive springs / roll bar setup.

I want to have good handling of course, but maybe not rattle the teeth out of my head! Are coils bearable for every day if you buy a decent set?

You look really surprised Thomas and I'm surprised too!

I don't mind losing some comfort for handling, if loads do it then shouldn't be an issue - are BC racing the most used?

I have bc coilovers fitted to my spec d and seem to be fine ! But then I had roll bars , drop links and anti lift kit fitted at the same time ! When I brought the spec d it already had prodrive springs fitted to the standard sti shocks which where good ! Only changed as had the right deal on the whole kit !

Got them in the for sale section if your interested ? Lol

BC coilovers have been the best single mod I've done to my WRX PPP so far.

Got them in great condition off Thwaites Developments for £400.

Car no longer steps out at the back at slow speeds and feels a lot more assured around corners. I'd never previously taken the car around a sharp corner over 40mph, Tweaks fitted the Coilovers and on a test run he entered the first corner we came to at ***censored*** mph and I **** em. The ride is hard though and there are noises, especially the quadruple VTA sound over speed bumps!

Best thing is the ability to raise or lower the car in just 50mins, it was slammed for drag racing and raised 15mm after I had an ill fitting Cobra Sport Downpipe fitted.

Ive got BC's on mine there fine, if u adjust them to maximum stiffness there abit much on country roads and if u adjust them to maximum softness then theres no point in having coil-overs lol, Just get some u wont regret it mate

Had top of the line AST's on my last classic. Completely pointless on a road car, they just didn't work on out sh1tty roads. Even on the softest setting they were too hard.

Bcs are crap, avoid as all they will do is make the car bouncy,if you must get coilovers get a decent make..
I have bcs and they will shortly be going in the bin. But as Matty's says not really for road cars

I know a fair few people have had them and swapped to the likes of kW and wouldn't look back

Edit
That said I also know people that have been really happy with them. Including one mate who swapped from Ast's to them.
Horses for courses I guess

What would you suggest as a replacement to my standard WRX suspension instead of coilovers? I also have that "clunk" problem with one of the rears so I guess I need to change the dampers too?

Gotta agree with tommy there. Replacement kyb's are great, there a bargain too compared to coilovers.

Difference is some people are blinkered by the I've got it so it's great syndrome, only fit for the bin in my experience ,which is like xxrs unfortunately buying them.
But you learn from your mistakes.

KYB shocks and some decent branded lowering springs like Eibach.

Very few people will ever knock an item they've essentially paid good money for. And usually people will rave about such things even if they actually aren't completely happy.
Coilovers work if on track or you manage to find that perfect bit of road (very unlikely in this country though) but for everyday driving they don't.

What ever happened to Apex as a trader? They came on, sold a $hit load of BC coilovers and Ksport brakes then disappeared...

Totally agree with you there Matty, I bloody hate coilovers, I had no option as I'm doing MLR this year. Otherwise I would have stuck with my previous Kyb set up. Or the bilstein shocks I had on one of my previous classics

Ive used BC coilovers and I found that the car jumps and the road noise is unbearable ,I swapped them out for Bilstein Prodrives and fitted Eibach p
P1 springs and all is well again, our roads are definitely not suitable for coilovers and wont ever go back to using them.

Do the people on here that dont like BC's not like them because of the ride comfort or because of the product quality ?

What's the longevity like on BC's, my standard shockers lasted a year at a time for example.
