Only those who don't understand what that car is think it's overpriced and horrible.
It's a very special car and worth 15k all day long.

Don't care how "good" it is that ricer bodykit is absolutely horrendous.

And that's coming from the owner of a hatch and a bugeye.

If only they made it look nice, it would be going for 22B money now

It's function over design remember fellas. The body kit wasn't designed to look pretty, it was designed to do a job.
It was also the most powerful and had the highest spec of any classic shape impreza. Throw in that only 300 were ever made and you've got a special car.
I hate the looks too but love it for what it is. I'd have one if I could afford one.

It's the ugly duckling of the classic range but very, very rare indeed, one day it could even surpass 22b money, to the right buyer this would be the icing on the cake of a Subaru collection and a steal at £15k.

So how much power did these have? I really can't see why this is worth almost 3 times as much than a stage one modified sti 6. And I don't care if the body kit is form over function. It looks hideous.

They only made a two hundred Catalunya's. Are they special?

So being an enthusiast means that you have to like every model?

I don't think so.

What a silly thing to say.

It looks like a halfords special. The standard sti 6 is a much nicer car.

He won't get anywhere near £15k. Unless an 'enthusiast' such as yourself buys it.
It's the sort of car that you have to explain what it is to your mates and family, justifying why it looks like a sack of ****.

That is not a good car.

Rare? Yes. Desirable? Not to 99% of true Subaru enthusiasts.

The more I look at it the more it grows on me.

Agree with matty, if you need it explaining it's obvious you don't get it.

Ofcourse it's not about liking every model, it's about understanding exactly what the car is and not just describing it as "hideous".
Like I said, I'm not a fan of the outrageous body styling but I can appreciate the car for what it is. For that reason I'd love to own it. It's the ultimate classic in regard to spec, any enthusiast who loves the classic shape impreza would 'get it'.
I can assure you the normal sti is not a better car, yes it may be more pleasing to the eye but better car,,,,,, certainly not.

How much does it weigh? 1270kg?

Slightly larger air intake and manifold, rose joint suspension links and adjustable suspension. So it's a modified sti with a bodykit?

Yes, roughly 1270kg according to the brochure. But then it did have more power than any other classic.

Here's a good link about the S201. Shame I can't read Japanese as I'm sure it's interesting

http://www.sti.jp/product/s201/top.htm

And yes, I suppose it is 'just' a modified STI with a bodykit, but then so is the 22B and that seems to do well.

Like I said, you either 'get it' or you don't. Yes it looks a bit wacky but at that time that's what the Japs loved. The crazy stickers found on the back of the impreza's give you an idea of what they deemed normal back then. And look at the Tommy Kaira editions that were available back then, another over the top looking thing but was very popular.
Either way it's a very rare car, yes it's not very pretty but as enthusiasts we should admire it for what it is. A limited edition last of the line classic with the highest spec from the factory ever. If that's not worth getting excited about then what is.

Please tell me you're on the wind up?. For a start you're having to explain to an enthusiasts forum why such a car is even remotely desirable. Secondly it's possibly the worst designed Impreza even overshadowing the blob in the hideous stakes. An enthusiast will go for an RA, p1, type r, spec c or any of the other s20 models over this. I'd wager a 4 door WRX will be worth more than these in future as nobody is salvaging them and it sums up an era better than this Domonic Toretto wannabe heap. Lastly though throw £15k at an RA and you've got yourself a much quicker car which will be worth £15k in years to come. Throw £15k at this and the majority will not touch it with a barge pole in 10 years, only a very very select few would even consider buying it but I'd imagine would also 'want it but don't have the money'.
£15k is a lot of money, I doubt it will sell for £5k.

I recon if I had the the space and spare cash, I could tuck this up in a nice heated garage for 10-15yrs and make a very tidy profit, only time will tell.
