Lovely cars, but everyone I have known that has had one seems to have got shut within a year, they never seem to have clear answers why though, one of them said it was an amazing car but the ride was just too rough for them keeping it

It's the lsb colour isn't it?
If it has the blue interior, I can't make it out , it is a hard car to sell on.
Don't get me wrong it's not as bad as the Phoenix yellow .
Most people try and get rid of the blue interior for black leather

Value wise its not too bad tbh

as far as which to choose the there very different beasts.

M3 isn't easily tuneable and bills can be very big on it (wait till you ge a inspetion 2 at anywhere from £1000 to £1500 depending on were you go). great cruiser and motorway monster but a well tuned hot hatch will easily stay with it now.

STI hawk, if its UK spec then engines arn't great in standard form. There alot less comfortable than the M3 but alot easier to tune.

Realy deends what you want it for, weekend toy then M3 is gonna be a bit tame, if you have tuning plans then STI is bette choice.

I went from this,

to this

Do these suffer from rear subframe issues ??

yep good point, rear subframe cracks from suspension struts. It's only a matter of time before they do it, not an if they do it. Expect £1500 bill to repair and reinforce it. My old one was already done

Ye been checked but that's about the worst thing that can happen. Big problem for me is the 2.5 engine in halkeye heard so many bad things about them. But from my experience a car is a car they have all got problems and faults.

Loving the look of the type r Tidgy, i am in the process of getting an M3 2001, 45k miles for 6k. I cannot resist due to the price and knowing the owner and history. I have an urge to get a naturally aspirated engine after owning my twinscroll spec C. Loving the idea of paddle shift in setting 6 with throttle on the floor.
Tbh, i am buying it for my wife....... Or so she thinks. I am currently driving a vw T5 camper van full conversion , fwd 102 bhp. Its cool to drive a bus "mellow dude!" but i do miss the odd track day.

I'd have a hawk Spec C ahead of an M3, but comparing to a UK car is a much closer choice imo.

I agree that the Hawk would be the more fun and certainly a better bet if you intend to tune but the M3 is probably a much easier car to live with as a daily driver and probably slightly quicker in a straight line.

Yep, right time , right place, right person. MOT next Tuesday. The discs and pads have been recently changed, fuel pump replaced, new tyres. It has sat for 10 months after the owner had it serviced and then bought a big audi cruise ship and his wife wanting rid of the m3 which is just sitting on the drive.
I am having to do most of the ground work as the owner is a highly in demand financial computer consultant head hunted by banks. I have a new battery to fit and the get it to the MOT where the owner will pay for any work needed if failure. Fingers cossed it all goes to plan.

you could put 4k in it and still be around market value for a decent one with 45k on it

I've had e46 m3s well 3 to be exact and have come back to Subaru. You will miss the sound, the boost and handling. Nice car the e46 m3 but you have to be skilful to push it beyond its boundarys. Also check that on inspection 2 it had the valve clearances adjusted as sometimes they have been done and haven't.

Thanks for the heads up. I am only getting away with buying it as the mrs just wants a reliable car with five seats where the child seat will fit. I would not get away with getting another subaru. At least the m3 SMG can be tamed for everyday driving.
