Bought myself my first scooby!
Hello scooby nutters!
I'm new here and I have just bought myself my first WRX. I owned a fiesta zetec-s before so the extra power will be fantastic! I had a good think about whether to go for a WRX or an STI over the past few months and I came to the conclusion to go for a low mileage WRX due to financial responsibilities (I'm a young lad). I also done a ton of research on the dreaded ringland failure on the 2.5's which made me aim towards the reliable 2.0. I've dreamed of owning a scooby for over 10 years and the dream has come true! . I was extremely lucky to grab this immaculate 05 WRX Blob with only 29k on the clock. I will be keeping the engine completely standard apart from treating it to a blitz catback, maybe downpipe too. On the aesthetics side, I have a list to do gradually bit by bit. So far I've bought myself a genuine STI boot spoiler, genuine STI bonnet scoop and genuine STI winglets which are soon to be painted!
This forum seems to have a cracking bunch of lads and I look forward to keeping in touch and showing off the future progress

Some of us maybe on crack , but many before have said the same about keeping it std LOL , and your off already with Sti bits.
Priority 1 "Get the uppipe Cat out" .
But as you have developed some taste in a decent car, What ever convinced you to buy a ford fiasco ?

LOL, STD didn't last long for me!
Thanks for the tip mate. I know that I will defiantly need a re-map for removing all the cats, but if I buy myself a blitz cat-back, and remove the down pipe cat, will it still need mapped? I'd like to keep the car performance standard as possible to keep the insurance down. I'd only be removing the down pipe for the loudness and the pops & bangs. Also I know a few friendly MOT testers so emissions won't be a problem

The general feeling is don't need to re-map for a deleted uppipe, but after that oh yes. Personally Id use a sports cat and save the discussion at MOT and with Plod if you ever get pulled and taken to task. Mapping has a lot of advantages will free up a lot of drivability for you even on std car / then on Prodrive sport cat , you should easily get over 265bhp with the Cat uppipe off. The sound will change to the better when you map , So start reading the Threads on mapping and away you go.

same story I told myself when I picked mine up and 2 years on I'm still hunting for more bits to fit to it!
I would say definitely consider uppipe delete (ideally mapped out but the CEL code can be defeated with a resistor) a fuel pump (no map tweak needed) then look at silicone intercooler pipes and a PPP downpipe.
If you can pickup an openport cable (or someone nearby can lend you one) flashing a map on isn't much work and there are plenty of stage 1/PPP style maps you can load up. Or friendly folk like myself will give you a hand creating a custom map tailored to your car/fuel for the maximum benefit.

Welcome RyanSives94
I also grabbed a low-ish mileage 2005 WRX, and love it to bits. Very helpful people on this forum and it was not long before I started fiddling with things - it's a slippery slope I feel!
Enjoy the new motor - any questions, let us know.

Yeah I wanted an STi, but I also wanted a low mileage blobeye with Under 40k on the clock and a low mileage STi blobeye doesn't come cheap
My limit was £7k and the WRX got traded into a garage 6 miles down the road from me. 29k on the clock, full service history, belts changed, new tyres all around, totally standard etc. The car is immaculate (looks brand new) inside and out. It's exactly what I was after
Also I'm 21 years old and insurance on an STi isn't pleasant at all

Looks a very nice clean example mate you have done well to find one close to home with that mileage enjoy it, and ignore any WRX haters you come across on this site, as there is plenty who love a wind up and think the site is STInet not scoobynet!
