Focus RS Vs Classic STI
Very surprised by one of these today. I was expecting more from the Ford..
Pulled up along side. He went, I went. Turbo came in.. Focus in rear view mirrors by about 2 car lengths and he couldn't catch up!
I know my car is around 300bhp, on paper the focus is 300bhp too. I figured that because he has a 2.5l he would have more initial torque and leave me. But it wasnt meant to be!
Does anyone else have any stories of cars they have been surprised at? I know this is not a great story but would be nice to hear of others experiences!!

Lol because we all buy Subarus to drive them slowly every day? hehe
There are alternatives for the ones whom always want to be sensible.
Nothing wrong with giving it some. Kept within the speed limits on an open and clear carriage way!

The standard RS's aren't that great. Wait till you come up a modded one. My 3 mates have got 400bhp, 420bhp and 500bhp RS's and go like **** off a shovel and sound unreal but 1st 2nd gear is non existent

300bhp classic is a reasonably quick car, I'd also imagine you have a weight advantage so no real surprise that you were a couple of car lengths in front, that may well have changed above 120mph, but up to a ton ish I'd say you have the legs on it and many other cars out there too, despite what the resident troll has to say about anything that's not a newage STI.

Nothing to do with it being a classic or a new age the 4wd is what helps in January on slippy roads.
I'd take the rs any day over an impreza.

As with ALL of these stories it's 100% useless.
You have no idea who was the better driver, what revs the gear changes were at, how long the changes were, who had more mechanical sympathy, what condition the other car was in, if it had any problems, if the other guy just gave up a bit at one point, if they really gave it their all or pushed the car as hard as they could etc etc.
Plenty of people have booted it past me in the past. Because I couldn't be bothered to race them or because my car was cold and I was staying off boost.
Unless you are going to give the cars to a fresh driver to compare back to back with proper timing equipment and an equal amount of time in each car you may as well just go by the book figures. Or just be happy that bearing a million unknown factors in mind on that occasion for whatever reason you were faster. But it proves absolutely nothing.

I bought the subaru this year. But I do own a much faster car and have done for a few years. I got the subaru for its better fuel economy (25mpg compared to 7mpg lol) and as a daily driver.
I just was very surprised at how well they do actually perform in the real world. I was asking people if they had similar stories, to see if this was just a fluke
If I wanted luxury I would have purchased a Merc, if I wanted spec I would have purchased a BMW. But as it happens, I do like to drive quickly (and safely) so I found a car that matched my style. The subaru has Air con and a MP3 player. It goes forwards (backwards as well!) what more are considered necessities when driving?
