Default replacing one tyre

Hi all. Hope everyone is enjoying life!
Quick question I have a wide track sti and my driver side rear has had to be replaced. Now do I have to replace both sides or can I just replace the one that is flat? All the others have plenty of tread.
If someone could let me know that would be fantastic. I think someone told me once that with 4wd you have to replace tyres a pair at a time on each axle because of the diffs. Is this correct or made up?
Many thanks

Probably max of 5k and that's absolute max. Probably more like 3k. Just seems a shame to chuck away a perfectly good pirelli lol
Thanks for the reply.

it'll be fine to replace the one tyre, the ideal though is to get the same model tyre / tread pattern

had they have done a load of mileage then there would be a concern regarding the rolling radius difference between each side

no worries

Try to get a matching tyre with similar sort of tread depth. Should be able to on ebay. If not I'd replace both, diffs can be quite sensitive to different tyre tread depths as it puts the rolling radius out by a tiny bit.

Ok brilliant thanks!!!
The old one was a pirelli p zero Nero or something and the new one is also a pirelli. Although it's not a p zero Nero would that matter?
Thanks again

Depends if your driving style is hard, aggressive. If you're pushing limits best get the same tyre.

If you don't hoon your car around it's not a big deal, however if you've only ordered the new tyre and not paid yet then ideally get the exact same tyre where possible.

Lovely thanks. I think the tyre has been fitted although it ring and check. Also I don't go mad just every now and then so probably by the time I hoon it the tyre would be lower on tread by then lol
Thanks very much for your help! Much appreciated!

Buy two new ones, put the decent remaining rear onto your full-size spare?

You DO have a full sized spare, don't you?

I have the space saver thing it came with. Although I do have a spare alloy with no tyre on.

Personally, I'd buy an axle set. At 5k it's probably 50% through its life anyway!

My widetrack Jdm Sti has 18" wheels but my spacesaver is only 17". Can you buy 18" spacesavers to suit ? Steve.

Not sure mate. I would think somewhere would sell them. Maybe cheaper just to but one alloy with tyre from eBay. Doesn't even have to match if it's only a spare.

The space saver should be the same rolling radius. If it is then no point spending cash on another.
