My 05 WRX is making the customary clicking/clunking at a low speed when turning right.
It's coming from the front left so had the wheel off today to have a look.

This is the outer joint:

This is the inner joint where I can see that some grease has got passed the boot.
I suspect this is the culprit.

Anyone agree?

It could be but the clicking usually comes from the outer joint as this has more angle on it when turning.
But as the boot has leaked I'd take it off and check it over and fix the issue as it's an mot failure.

Yeah, probably best to have the shaft taken out and completely rebuilt just to refresh everything.

In fact, I think I'll contact icp for a complete replacement drive shaft assembly.

Any ICP can't supply, does anyone know a good supplier for Drive Shafts?

Right, work this one out.

With old wrx alloys/tyres on the car 'clunked' from the front passenger side when turning right at slow speed.

With new wheels on and the budget tyres, no clunking at all.

Vredestein tyres fitted, still no clunking.

Went to my mechanic to have a split boot replaced and he still suspected from what I said that the cv joint was on its way out, so he changed it.

Got the car back and for a few days, still no clunking.

But guess what, the clunking has now returned.

Could this be a front diff issue?

It's not bothering me too much, I just want to narrow it down.

Are you sure it's not a drop link?

As above, very likely to be a drop link. Even more so if you have the ball type links.

Good point. I do have updated drop links front and rear from as performance. Could be that I guess. Didn't even cross my mind!

IM having the same issue, replaced drop links with new and 2nd hand shaft and still doing it. Having bearing replaced next week and if that doesn't solve it I'm guna try a new drive shaft. Mechanic has had it up on the ramp and can't pin point the noise.

Don't forget the strut top mount, it's a moving part too.
