Default Strange chirping sound

Me and the mrs drive to Brighton today (a 50 mile journey) and took it very carefully on the way down, never driving above 70 and not opening it up along the way either. When we arrived I went I to a car park to turn round and this very faint chirping sound started coming from I don't know where. I then managed to narrow it down to when I turned (even the slightest bit), sounds a bit louder after ten minutes but when I drive straight it doesn't happen, I'm sure this will get louder still on the way home but for now I am trying to work out what it is. It sounds like it could be coming from the steering column, maybe power steering fluid escaping from a hose? Sounds like that sort of squeaky rubbery sound,

Any ideas?

Hmm, i know it always difficuilt to explain noises, i quickly googled the sound and it comes high pitched,

Could it be the powersteering belt?

As you are away and have to drive back, best thing to do is to get your other half to woble the steering wheel while you have a peak under the bonet.

It will let you isolate the problem.

If you think there maybe a leak of PAS fluid then check the reservour and that its still above min.

post a quick vid if you can.

Alternatively just take it easy on way home and if you feel something is wrong (steering) or the noise getting real loud and worrying just pull over and RAC/AA it dont risk it.

again really hard to diagnose it. Good luck bud

Thanks chaps, i will try this, I will take it easy on the way home. Luckily I have this health check booked on Friday so I will see if the guys will locate it, sounds like it's gonna bump up the cost though. It must be where it's been sitting in bad weather for five months and is suddenly being driven as a daily driver

Is it the sort of thing that will result in suddenly no steering? And how long a job is it? Hopefully
Not much more to come

If it's been sat for months get the belt changed and check the fluid level.

have you ever driven a non PAS car, if you have then the steering will feel like you are driving a 1989 Ford Fiesta, but too be honest i have not heard of PAS belts snapping,

Basically normally the sound comes when belt got either bit loose or wet, in your case most likely got wet

and its a job oyu can do yourself

As we are not 100% on whether it is the belt or not get it checked out on fri but don't order anything as you may order a wrong thing lol. If it is the belt then u can drive it no problem but fri is only day away anyway let us know what it is after fri

I would go with power steering belt too, mine did this a while back so I changed it along with the a/c belt too. Really simple job as long as you have a socket set. If it just needs tightening then even easier. Video below shows how to do it.

Noise got louder as predicted and steering on the spot feels rougher.

Also the noise (which is definately Starting to sound like a belt) speeds up when going faster and is slower at lower speeds
