4 pot calipers binding?
So one year into owning the bug wagon I am suffering from a sticking/binding front near side caliper(always that one for some reason). When I bought the car at Xmas last year it was in January that I had this problem and remedied it seemingly by replacing the front calipers with a s/h decent set.
Until now.
As I understand from reading the standard pistons in the calipers are a chrome plated steel and as such eventually corrode causing the sticking/binding?
And as I understand replacing the standard pistons with Stainless Steel pistons means this problem won't arise again?
Now I have just seen a caliper repair kit which has supposedly stainless steel pistons and all new seals (for one caliper) on the bay of 'e' priced at approx £59 which seems cheap as I seem to remember seeing somewhere a set of 4 stainless pistons alone was around£80-100.
So say I bought the kit from the bay of 'e' how would I know if they were genuine stainless steel and not chromed?
I know I should fit brembos but just don't have the money right now.
Until now.

We offer a full set of stainless steel Pistons and seals to do a pair of calipers for £119:99 , you would be better off doing both calipers not just one side , if one caliper is sticking , the other side won't be far behind it.
You can check Pistons are stainless steel as a magnet won't stick to them

When you remove your Pistons , you will probably find the top lip of the caliper bore is also rusty , so you will need to remove this rust otherwise they can still cause sticking.
If you clean the top lip , clean it all thoroughly, fit new Pistons and seals with caliper grease , it should be good from then on , the only times we have seen issues from then on , is when the outer dust seal has come off causing damp and dust to get in the caliper bore causing the caliper body to rust again.
If you fit stainless Pistons , they will never rust again
Cheers Ian

as said above, really make sure you get all the crap and crud off them before reassembly - trying to get those rings around the piston boot was doing my box in until I took them apart again to give it another whizzing over!

I can vouch for Ian's kits - I've had a set from him for my own calipers and rebuilt a friends set using Ian's pistons. I won't buy them from anywhere else!
btw I'll be ordering another set in a couple of months Ian Do you do stainless pistons for the rear newage two pots too??

Hi
No they are a mild fast road pad and are aimed at people using there car as an every day drive , with some spirited driving now and again
They are a good all round pad , but not suitable for track days
