The envy is finally catching up with me :(
So... the "STI envy" as it is commonly called is catching up with me.. after giving it A LOT of thought I think I would be better off selling my WRX and buying an STI as a base for modifying.
My question...for the budget I will have I will probably only be able to aim for an STI with mileage around the late 70s / early 80s. As long as the obvious (service history, etc) has been maintained would it be a smart move going from a WRX with 60k miles and good history for an STI with higher miles?

£6,500 is about where I will be to be honest, I am hoping for around £4250 for my WRX...fsh, all completely standard except Vortex cat back and replica STI spoiler...am I being ambitious at this price, about right or under selling?? I have noticed that impreza prices have increased recently (I guess due to petrol prices) so would be nice to get as much as possible for it

Don't let mileage put you off to much. I test drove 2 cars with less than 40k on clock and they didn't feel very responsive. Took out the car I ended up buying with 71k on clock and it drove the way I wanted - smooth, great pickup.
Check the service history and look for a good make of tyres all round - I generally find if a car is looked after it will have decent brakes and a good make of tyres all round.

Would be very worth your while selling up and moving towards the STI
And the WRX are at a good price right now so would be a good time to do it

not trying to start a "what's it worth" debate here but I genuinely do not know what to price mine at, the prices vary so much it's hard to know what is reasonable

What car is it? Blobeye with 60k on? Everything standard except spoiler?
I would mark at £4600 and see if it grabs any interest
EDIT:
In fact looking at autotrader dam they have gone up again!
Anything below 70,000 WRX starts at £5500, so look on there and see where yours would fit with the mileage and year etc

Buyer beware and make sure you choose wisely, as that lot can see what looks like a bargain £6/7k car turn into an almost £10k car overnight, more so if your not a reasonably handy DIY mechanic with a good collection of tools.

Yes you would generally and especially because you plan to mod it, but these days you need to be very careful, and make sure the gearbox doesn't crunch at high revs in EVERY gear, rear suspension also want's to have been changed, if your looking at cars with 70k, I'd be wanting to see a fresh clutch in there along with a recent timing belt change, and it wouldn't hurt to see that the pads had been changed recently either as the caliper bolts are known to seize, strip the threads or break the bolt and will need helicoiling.

Type R is a bit of an acquired taste but I love mine, might be a bit much as a daily driver if you do a lot of miles.
One thing to remember though is it's a TOTALLY different car, just because they share the same name don't let that fool you into believing they are. You really need to drive one to see if it's for you or not.

Prices vary so much and have to find the right buyer. May get what your asking or may not get even a phone call at that price.
As above sell it then look, markets pretty fast moving right now.

Cheers for all the input guys will list the WRX tonight and test the water with it. As with all cars they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it
The type R is nice but I'm not sure if it is for me I really am a fan of the blob eye and although I love my WRX in the black with gold flake I would happily settle for a blue STI, reckon with some good elbow grease it will polish up just as good
