Default newage steering racks?

Sorry if this seems a stupid question but is there two different types of steering rack??
I've just tried fitting the rack to my ru-furb'd 04 blob wide-track project subframe ( link below ), but it seems to be different. The subframe it sits in has two round sections but the rack has a square section and a round section? Have i some how got the wrong rack?

Any help appreciated.

Danny might be able to help you here!

I know he's no longer on here but he has a few mates that still are. I'm pretty sure i read on one of his latest threads that he fitted a newage spec c or similar rack to his latest classic.

Not much help i know, sorry

I know it's an old thread mate but there are more than 2 different ones...there's about 4 or 5 all in all I think...Here's a few part numbers 34110FE230, 34110FE510 are STI racks exc DCCD from September 2001 to June 2004...34110FE440 STI rack July 2003 to June 2004 with DCCD and the 34110FE610 is for STI (widetrack) models from April 04 onwards. WRX part numbers are 34110FE000 April 2000 to 2001, 34110FE130 from April 2001 to June 2004...34110FE560 and 34110FE570 for the April 2004 onwards models. Subaru parts are a ball ache at the best of times...it's great when they have part numbers on them and things make sense but Subaru are buggers for making things hard to track down part number wise

Sounds, like you may be trying to fit an older rack to a revised subframe.

I'm going to be fitting superpro steering rack bushes on my 2005 Blob WRX and have found that there seems to be 2 main differences between the <2004 and 2004> racks (at least on the WRX anyway).

Pic below shows the bracket arrangement on the revised 2004> rack, note that there is one 'D' shaped or half round bracket and 2 fixed bolt holes with bushes next to the steering column shaft:

<2004 racks seem to have another similar 'D' shaped bracket (albeit square, I think) in place of the 2x fixed bolt holes of the revised rack:

Hope this helps.

Is there a difference between left hand drive racks and right hand drive racks? Thank you very much!

Yeah the pinion drive for the rack will be on the opposite side

You couldnt fit a rhd rack to a lhd car as the pipes wont mate up in the right places.

I was kind of thinking that it could not be that simple as just to rotate the rack so that the pinion drive would be on the other side...

That means that I cannot get a rack from UK for my left hand drive Forester...

Thank you again for your answer.
