Does anyone have any figures for how loud the standard STI exhaust is on say a 2004 model?

Is it much louder than the WRX?

The same, its a standard quiet exhaust.

 

i think the STI exhaust is a smidge louder than the WRX one but it wouldn't be worlds apart from it. Some more info/comparisons here:

92db seems quite high for an exhaust surely? Although I guess the reading was very close.

Are the STI wheels bigger? Lower profile tyres?

 

no the WRX/STI wheels are the same 225/45R17 unless you have the bigger prodrive wheels i think or the smaller WRX wheels (205/55R16)

More expensive to begin with, but less depreciation, faster, cheaper on insurance (somehow).

The only thing I worry about is the noise, but 92db from an exhaust doesn't sound that loud. I guess being a saloon the overall car isn't noisy standard.

 

it's not that bad on the stock pipe, quite civil round town and easy to sneak up on folk for a surprise attack/overtake manouver. Even with the decat downpipe and a straight middle section the STI backbox kept the sound quite reasonable without killing power too much.
