Hi All
I have just bought a 97 2.0R 5 door hatch, having always wanting a Scoobie but not being able to afford the running costs of a turbo model this is the next best thing for me.
Now is there anyway to improve the performance and handling I.E. will any parts from any of the other models fit?

Alan

Pop over to the Wales section and get some local interest. But in short most bits swap over but performance wise your pretty stuck at 125 bhp.

Brakes followed by good tyres are the two best performance mods you'll ever fit

Could it be re mapped? I know it would not have the performance gain of a turbo model but is it possible?

You wouldnt put gain anything out of it being mapped?

Stick a manifold land exhaust, tyres and suspension

Nope, no gains with an NA scoob engine worth writing about.

What manifolds would you suggest?

Mate,

You really are wasting money trying to get any more power from a NA 2.0 flat four, at best you may get 5 - 10 bhp. Decent KYB's shocks and some STi springs with 4 pot brakes on the front as an upgrade.

Any good after market exhaust (not sh*te like Japspeed) will give you noise but with an NA not much more. Unless you have forced induction or bottomless pockets just enjoy the AWD and smile.

Would the springs from an older model fit the front?

I fitted STI Springs to Sport shocks for a lad in Bridgend awhile ago. Easy job but the rears are a bit of a pain.

As above your stuck with the BHP unfortuantly - the way to look at it is make the most of what you have. Subarus are at their best in the twisties so a good suspension and wheel set up will enable you to carry a lot more speed. Then there is the weight issue - Imprezas are heavy and weight kills speed so get rid of what you dont need - Think of the 106 Rallye - they only had 120bhp but they were as light as a flea and seriously quick when set up properly!

Spoken like a lad who has never driven a fast car.

They are terrible. Fine as a car, but terrible as a performance car, and extremely slow (in comparison)/

Just enjoy it for what it is. Not everyone can have an STI from the start.

I'm 19 so it's pretty much impossible to get insured on a turbo

Its a blummin nice car to have at 19 dude, so just enjoy it!

I had a VW Golf 1.3 Mk2 at 19, with four gears and about 60bhp.

I thought that was nippy at the time too!
