Default HELP - AGAIN LOL

Hi all,

I purchase my WR1 3 weeks ago and I noticed a slight knocking from the coilers (BC RA set which where put on like 9 months ago by the previous owner). Today it got worse and is banging - i am sure its the coil overs as my mechanic said he could see some where on the right front but he did not have any C spanners to take a proper look (good job i ordered some last week).

I know they are still under warranty, but it says i need to send it back to BC on their site, meanwhile that would mean me being off the road for as long as they take to investigate it and get back to me (which i think would probs take 2 weeks).

I can't afford to be carless for 2 weeks so what are my options?

buy 1 replacement (if they sell singles - and send back this damaged one and if they replace it hey ho i have a spare)

or do I go back to standard full set? if so how much would it cost? and would it be a more comfy ride as i find it quiet uncomfortable - so many pot holes in sheffield i find i am driving like 20mphs every where coz i don't want to reck the car (accept when I'm in the country side lol )

either way what would it cost and how would i go about sorting it quick

I am clueless - i have had lease cars all my life and this is kinda my first owned car so dunno where to start lol

any advice would be greatly appreciated

I bought 2 rear replacement bc coilovers with adjustable top mounts/c spanners think it was around £300

I can't remember what spring rate I ordered but it was a soft rate spring and i have no problems now, although I have a knocking from the left rear I know it's not the suspension as it's new, been told it could be some nut on the driveshaft

For road use coilovers are a bit pointless tbh, they are more track targeted because ofnthe adjustability.

Kyb agx and a decent set of lowering springs are a decent set up.

thats a point - I'm going in to scooby clinic end of week - i mite just buy 1 off em and send this one back to BC and get a replacement and keep as spare

by the way is standard set up any better in terms of ride quality?

tbh these are fantastic on a nice bit of road - but sheffields roads r so fu**ked that i am thinking of getting OEM if they are comfier

Coil overs waste of time on our public roads nowadays. Better of with standard or uprated struts and springs.

Yes.

As mentioned KYB AGX or other good quality shocks and descent springs are much better than coilovers on UK roads.

A mate has just said he think its the shocker insert

I just spoke with BC - they said its most likely the damper (99%) - its very common

£130 to change

going forward I deffo want to remove the coilovers - its just too stiff in my opinion

what would you guys go for out of the below and why?

KYB AGX - http://shop.scoobyclinic.com/index.p...product_id=331

or

Pedders - http://shop.scoobyclinic.com/index.p...product_id=621

in fact scrap the above - scooby clinic doesnt have the pedders for an STI

I am just going to have to stick with what i have - and get SC to inspect it and then order the part and hope it goes away lol

If you find coilovers too hard, you can get softer springs from BC.

If you are still interested in the AGXes, check stock availability as last time I checked they were on backorder with no delivery date given. (I ended up sourcing mine from overseas.)

Also if you go with the AGX you will need the Scooby921 spacers (from the US) to use with WR1 springs and top mounts.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!!!

I was just about to go bradford to BC and pick up a new damper and bearings (coz 2 mechanics said it was the cause)

just before making my way i popped in to highfield motors in attercliffe and the russian mechanic spent 20mins investigating it all, comparing right with left and said i cant see any damages, he then popped bonnet open and looked at the bolt under the damper and said ahaaaaaa! (light bulb)

turned out it was just a loose bolt - all knocking has disapeared - so chuffed man, he saved me £200 and a half day - im back at work now (litterally just booked a half day to go bradford and i cancelled it)

atleast its added to the poole of knowledge on here

thanks all

I also realised that my steering wheel has stopped shaking now when braking under high speed - its amazing how badly your car can perform becoz of 1 loose bolt

chuffed now - fallen back in love again lol
