4 years ago I went from a 330bhp classic to a mildly tuned Evo 8 and after a very short amount of time I realised what a massive mistake i'd made. They just dont feel like a drivers car, the brakes were either on or off and to get any sort of proper driving experience/thrill out of it I can imagine you'd have to do quite a bit to it which I wasnt prepared to invest in.

mines a fq360 running about 390 @ 1.5bar ( I think )
so I'm doing a few things to the suspension and getting it mapped up to about 1.8bar
so should see about 420
don't know much about evo's but I no they make good bhp for very little ££££

Not sure why you say you had problems with the brakes, there are the same as what fitted to a newage STi and feel no different.you don't need to invest that much, mine is a FQ 300 and after changing the exhaust and a remap took to near 400bhp,you can't do that with a standard STi.I can understand why you say it isn't a drivers car,you know that the AYC is doing a lot of the work for you.
Electronics make you think you are good until you drive a real car without them.

Why not use it through summer and give it a chance, they are a fantastic car when peddling on,easy to tune etc.
The only reason I sold mine was I hankered for another classic with decent power as I preferred the way the classic's feel and go.
A well tuned Evo has such a linear power band and to some it doesn't feel frantic enough.
